Pitt Postgame: all eyes on SUMBB

How did he look overmatched? Seems like a blanket statement with no supporting evidence.
Too small. Too uncertain. Unimpressive arm strength. Not a physical presence. He did not look like a major college QB to me.

As opposed to a guy like Eric Dungey, who, from the moment he entered his first game as a frosh - following an unanticipated QB1 QB injury - looked like he could play at the major college level - and play well.

Just my opinion - based on my untrained eyes.

Nobody was rooting for Carney more than I was and nobody wants him to succeed more than I do.

Too small. (OK I can buy that but did it impact his play this game?) Too uncertain. (Really? He seemed calm and composed to me) Unimpressive arm strength. (This is probably true but he never threw a real pass to tell one way or another) Not a physical presence. He did not look like a major college QB to me. (Again nothing from his play indicates that. So if you are going off of measurables, fine. But his actual play didn't come off as being overmatched)

Saying he does not look the part is one thing. Can't really argue there. But saying he was overmatched when he had only positive plays, IMO isn't fair.

Again mostly true, but again that said there’s no question in my mind he gives us a better chance to be competitive and possibly win UNC and/or BC

He did not look small or uncertain to me. I thought he looked quite certain in what to do. And more certain than Collins.

I am not sure about his arm strength given the play calls. But what good is arm strength when you overthrow, underthrow, behind throw, too far ahead throw, fail to throw, throw into triple coverage, and just plain outright throw to the other team?

Rickie has played in 5 games. In three of them his first drive ended with an interception. All at home. It's not like he bounces back with 2-3 TDs. He has looked awful playing in the Dome. He has looked a little better playing on the road for some reason and yet it was 31-3 against SMU at one point.

Kind of like the Hippocratic Oath--do no harm. If Rickie cannot stop turning the ball over and Carney can, I don't care whether he is the size of Frodo's friend... errr... the guy that played Rudy.

Kind of amazing to think Dungey just rolled in here in the start of summer camp, was forced into action in quarter 1 of game 1, and looked as comfortable as he did. (I still get angry about that CMU cheap shot in game 3).

Carney came in before the spring, had the same summer camp. And has practiced as the backup for 4 weeks. We treated him like a child who couldn't handle a 3rd and 9.

There are plenty of times I take one look at someone and say hell no. AJ long types

I just don't know what people are seeing that is so bad here. He just looks like a guy and he has barely had any sort of chance to show anyone good or bad

I don’t know either but I also don’t think most of us think he’s too small or overwhelmed or has insufficient arm strength. I think he looked fine.

And good call on AJ Long types or Mitch Kimbles.

You don't throw for 11,000 + yards and rush for 3000+ yards in 4 years of High School unless you have some talent.
