Pitt Postgame: all eyes on SUMBB

I don't understand putting Carney in for a couple plays, not really having him do anything, then taking him out.
Makes zero sense, then going back to Collins?

That combined with whatever the flying * was at the end of the first half… idc about this season, never even with this win was this team getting 6 wins with Collins, the more concerning part is the coaching and decisions…

I’m convinced we could have won today if we had competent coaching. Obviously the end of the first half was diabolical. But we should have utilized more creative play calling with Villari wildcat, jet sweeps, misdirection, etc instead of putting everything on Rickie’s shoulders.

The defense did its job tonight 100%.

I think it was just to try to pacify the fans. “ Look , I put Carney in and he didn’t play any better”. I was there, the fans booed when Collins was put back in. Coaching staff didn’t give Carney a chance to do anything.

Like did the coaches do that to show that Carney isn’t the answer? Because I saw some good things and we’re not winning with Rickie anyways, so it can’t get any worse
The only thing that makes sense is confirmation that he isn't ready. That's the only thing that makes sense. They knew Carney wasn't ready but desperation makes people do things they shouldn't and they put him in anyway.

20 games in and we still can’t run the ball. Not like today was a one off. Never seen a team this bad over such a long period.

So the discussion here begins and ends with the series before half. Indefensible. Kyle McCord isn’t in that huddle. Rickie is not getting points on the board backed up inside the 25 with ;30 on the clock. Take a knee and get to the locker room. Pitt isn’t calling their TOS there- they’re getting the ball to start the second.

I cannot wrap my head around the decision to keep throwing the ball after Rickie almost threw a pick on first down. That was some junior high school game management. Fran needs to own it in the post game presser. He’s had a horrible week.

I can live with the flip flopping on Carney. It looked to me that Carney was operating on a very limited playbook. It looked they tried to insert him to spark the offense and when it didn’t work, they went back to Rickie.

I thought Rickie actually started to settle down a bit when he got back in, but I don’t see him as a long term solution.

If the staff thought replacing Rickie was a plausible outcome tonight, I hope they gave Carney enough reps during the week. It didn’t look like it to me.

The QB position is a bit of a train wreck right now. And our best playmakers can’t get the ball.

Two weeks and that was what they came up with on O. Or to put it another way they decided to run our O like always.
