Class of 2014 PK/P Will Mahar Will Walk On at BC

Rochester's McQuaid Jesuit. Remember this name. One of the best place kickers in the country. With Krautman having one more year of eligibility, I will assume SU will be bringing in a kicker next year.
It seems logical and anything less than the best kicker in the country is selling ourselves short when we feature the Dome. I hope Norton isn't being considered as the next step in the progression of quality kickers on the roster. Distance and accuracy being at times mutually exclusive in tandem.

Is he interested in Cuse?

Not sure who's recruiting him or if he's interested in Cuse. I will let you guys know when i hear something. I just wanted to make sure you guys were aware of him. He's been to some kicking camps across the country and received high rankings. Not sure if the staff considers Norton to be the future place kicker or not. Plus I'm bored. Just wanted to put something on here. lol...

too bad he couldn't kick for his next year. i don't even trust krautman for PAT's

You don't see a placekicker his size very often (6'2). Kicked a 49 yard FG as a sophomore. From what I have read, his leg strength is outstanding. If there is an issue, it is with accuracy. Sounds like he is very similar to Norton.

Ranked as the #23 kicker nationally in the ranking linked below, which evaluates based on ability to kick field goals and kick off. I have pasted the scouting report on him below as well.

Top Kickers Class of 2014

Will showed tremendous potential at the Eastern Showcase camp in Dec of 2011, he does need to refine his ball striking but the ball explodes off his foot better than anyone else in the 2014 class to date, his development in the years to come should be interesting to watch. Will has shown 65+ yard FG strength. Will competed at the 2012 Scholarship Camp and showed flashes of excellence. His "A" ball is unmatched in the 2014 class, his consistency is what is hurting him. He can jump up the rankings easily with improved fundamentals on KO's and FG's. His steps are hurting him on KO's. He is up and down with ball striking. Without a doubt one of the most talented prospects in the country.

Great find Sutomcat. Seems like a great evaluation of him.

Does the staff know about him? If not, might want to shoot Adkins an email...

Let's see:

1. Shitting on a current SU player who has done really well for us? Check.

2. Dismissing a player's chances before he's even been given an opportunity? Check.

3. Putting full support behind a true freshman at the expense of someone who is already on the roster? Check.

My conclusion is that this is a genuine CaliCuse post.

This has to be pinned: the criterias for a CaliCuse post.

Actually, I love Norton His primary function is the one he executed so well which is putting the ball deep in the end zone slowing or eliminating returns. According to quite a few here he was a wasted scholarship. I was never on that page. The biggest problem with long distant fg kickers is elevation. The longer the attempt the more difficult it is to elevate the ball past the LOS. Discussing a player's potential is not a crime nor inappropriate. Its more of an observation than an indictment. Are you sure your conclusion isn't a concussion?Very funny . Point taken.:bat:

Cali - how do you come up with these gems all the time. This is just a classic, love it.

:D

BS, Cali. Your quote was:

"I hope Norton isn't being considered as the next step in the progression of quality kickers on the roster."

All-Greater Rochester team is out and from his profile:

Contacted by Notre Dame, Ohio State, University of Southern California (USC), Michigan and schools in the Patriot League

Doesn't mean there hasn't been any contact, but if so doesn't sound too good for SU.

Right, but will any of those schools actually offer a scholarship to a kicker? I have no idea. It seems like Marrone's philosophy is to offer them to specialists. That may give us an advantage over some of the big boys.

It seems that the only positions we have consistently recruited well at, aside from maybe RB, have been the K and P spots.

Domes are kicker friendly and more common at the next level. It makes SU an attractive place for specialists.

Would be great to get this kid, but if we don't I am sure we will be fine with someone else (after Norton).

Syracuse is one of the few schools to actually offer specialists, so we have a shot if we want one.

Actually it cannot be a true Cali post until he works in an anecdote about his son working as a writer on "24"/Hollywood in general or a gratuitous use of :);):confused::bang::eek:couchburn . Just pulling your chain Cali. ;)

My point is that if contacted and he's stating Patriot League before SU, doesn't sound like they're high on the list. Obviously, conjecture on my part.

Anyone remember the last great kicker to come out of McQuaid?

Bob Thomas who I think went to ND and then kicked for the Bears...
