wondered how aggressive we were sat, lots of run run pass talk

23 first down attempts

pass 6
dungey runs on first down 6
10 first down RB runs

thats a good mix

twice we went run run pass

one series we ran alot 6 out of 9 plays
one we threw 3 out of 4 plays
one series we had 2 pass, 2 runs, 2 qb runs
one series qb run, run pass
one series run, pass, qb run
we had pass, run, pass
we had run, run, pass

is really was a good mix, execution will be the key not the play calling.

and we also had the 2-3 draws in 3rd and long where the protected the ball.

I want to see more passes, especially on first downs.

t down

we threw or had the qb run over half the time. i would expect the QB checked down into runs more than he checks into passes but we will never know that.

wake was 20 pass 14 run. BUT.. at the point we took the lead they were 14 run 8 pass, the rest of the game they were all pass and had little success moving the ball.

I think as the season progresses and Dungey's more comfortable, we'll see more passes. Plus if we find ourselves down to an opponent by a couple of scores, I anticipate more passes. I'm fine with what I've seen so far.

I enjoyed the post Cunninghsm to Barnett...I mean Dungey to Estime TD, play calling. I also enjoyed our first couple of series. Not a fan of what we saw in between. Then again, we seemed to have the ball for only 2-3 very short series during that time.

Wake was milking that play clock like a Princeton half court offense.

the more Dungey reads the D correctly the more you can open up the play book. Coaches said he made some good reads and missed some others. I remember some nassib talk back in the day about him making every correct read which is probably agood reason he is still sticking in the pro's

we need to protect the ball to stay in these games.. also the goal has always been win the first 3 games, limiting mistakes is the first key to that

Yep. It's why I think we'll likely see a similar game plan this week, unless we get a significant lead, or find ourselves down like the Wake game. Coaches likely feel we can win with that low risk approach. The "house money" games like LSU and FSU, I'm betting we see far less caution.

I'd like to see more designed roll-out passes. Dungey seems to see the field better in these situations and it buys him an extra second or two when the pass protection breaks down (esp. if Trudo is out). It also gives him more room to tuck it and run, which causes problems for the defense.

Speaking of which, I'm glad to see Dungey knows when to slide. It's not worth an extra yard or two for him to absorb a big hit.

Agreed. I think one of our primary objectives this year, and into the next 2-3 years, is to keep Dungey upright. As in healthy.

He's got fantastic potential, but he is not sturdy physically. My point is not that he is small (he is 6-3, 205 reportedly), only that he's going to get bigger. But right now, he's a potential rag doll for a charging defensive end or linebacker.

Dungey has to be careful, as does the coaching staff. And early returns are that both are keenly aware and in agreement on this front. Remember, Dungey had a couple of feet-first slides against Wake. I'd also like to see more bootlegs and rolling pockets. Let's give Dungey a chance to protect himself "in space" (one of my favorite football terms) with his plus athleticism. Just my $0.02.

(still wish he able to redshirt this year)

I think Lester has done a good job keeping designed QB runs in our arsenal, without relying on it too heavily and and subjecting Dungey to a beating.
A play we haven't seen yet, that we used to use effectively with Hunt at QB in short/medium yardage situations, was the QB draw.

I want to see more jump balls to Ishmael and more intermediate routes from Bris and Lewis. I think we have some solid receivers there that are not being utilized to their potential right now. Obviously, they are slowing working Dungey in, but time to start seeing some more of this.
