Players crying in the locker room

I think people would be surprised if they learned of the thought processes of some of the kids on the team, and the things they say in private. I know of one kid in particular who people would be stunned if they heard about some of his actions behind the scenes.

In a good, or bad, way?

Agreed. I'd say: 1. That's why McDonald is no longer employed here. 2. And his hire reflects poorly on Shafer. I'd take that into account when I evaluate the job he's done. No question.

That's all I'm asking here. I am not saying Fire Shafer now, but there has to be accountability if this team ends up 3-9 again. Can't keep blaming Marrone.

The empty cupboard Marrone left included Jerome Smith, PTG, West, Trudo, Hickey, Foy, Robinson, and Palmer.

Shafer and his hand-picked OC went with Allen/Edouard/Long when it came to getting a QB for the system. When do we start to put some accountability on Shafer and the current coaches?
As soon as you do with Marrone.

They went with a 4-star, prototype transfer from Oklahoma who didn't pan out, a really talented kid who couldn't qualify, and a kid who had concussion issues and was medically disqualified.

Yeah, those are things the staff could TOTALLY predict would happen.

It only seems like I'm blaming Marrone. I'm trying to apply the same rules to both coaches to better evaluate them both.

I think if they go 3-9 again you'll see some assistants move on and Shafer will stay. And that will be the accountability you seek

I agree with this. I think last year basically gets wiped away because, frankly, it's hard to truly assess a team when half of the starters are injured. This year is not good, but the team is showing at least some progress. Next year, for me, is make or break in terms of showing real growth. This year you make necessary staff changes to get things moving in the right direction.

I really don't see how Fred Reed survives this season unless we see a drastic turnaround, which certainly COULD happen. I still think we have 3 winnable games on the schedule in Louisville, NC State, and BC - especially those last two. If Georgia Tech hadn't beaten FSU last night, I'd be saying that FSU is beatable too, but a pissed off FSU, at home, coming off a heartbreaking loss like that...that's not how I want to face them, to say the least. Clemson we don't have any chance against, I don't think.

Upperclassmen by any chance?

I think winfield dowells and hudson all show promise. Also rodney williams and cordy appear to ge good players. You want to talk youth, look no further than the secondary. I think people are too hard on reed.

Five years after they left the program is not the measure. The measure is right now when they are on the field trying to win games to make THEIR dreams come true. We are rooting for them to get their wish so we can come along for the ride.

Exactly THEIR dreams, not the dreams of team accomplishments. Not saying all don't care a great deal, because a bunch do, but I think you would be surprised the amount that are only out for themselves and team losses mean little. I know of some from this team (1 a pretty significant player), and stories from when my brother played up there as well.

I'm not surprised by this at all. You've got 85 scholarship kids. The odds of at least 10 of them being in it solely for themself and themself alone is pretty high. The key is to recruit team guys and create an atmosphere where guys play for each other. I obviously don't have the connection to the program that you do, but it at least appears to me that a good portion of these kids want to win for the team and the coaches. Give me a slightly less talented guy who is all about the team 8 days a week. To me it seems we have good young leaders in Dungey and Franklin. That gives me real hope for the future. Continue to bring quality guys in and build the program around them. It will rub off on younger players, and should, in theory, continue to help strengthen the program.

As soon a we have a good secondary I will applaud him. Until then I will watch with hope.

Not good. Fortunately, the VAST majority of the locker room cares like crazy and lives for the program and the University.
it's always been that way and its that way on pretty much every sports team in history. I think it's probably rare to find a college football team where all 85 players are unified in their motivations.

Franklin mentioned this in the post game press conference. Obviously i'm not happy their crying, but it does give me hope and shows that they care just as much as we do. There are times when I think the die hards care more then some of the players, but this tells me this team still will have some fight.

I want to be mad. I'm sure frustrated enough, but you can see the young talent out there (and surprisingly the offensive talent is the most exciting). These really feel like games we are losing due to youth, and will use to our benefit down the road once we learn to win. That's the key we have to learn to win. Personally I am kind of torn. I really don't think Shafer is a good game manager, and really question his and his staff's ability to game plan, but the kids play their hearts out for him, and that's half the battle right there. I think Shafer's strength is building a strong team chemistry. You can tell the guys genuinely care for one another.

As for next year I think this team has shown enough for Shafer to be brought back, but next year has to be a big year, not just white knuckling a 6 win season.

I'm just so frustrated right now. It's always next year. This really feels like neext year, but i'm sure i've felt the same before. This is just tough. It's not like we are losing close ones to Clemson, FSU, and the upper-echelon of the ACC we're getting beat by UVA, USF, and Pitt. Why can Narduzzi come to Pitt and you can immediately tell they are a completely different team from last year. One that not only believes, but are extremely well coached. No matter our young talent, I just don't get the same feeling, and this is year 3 for Shafer.

Well there's my no point, rambling rant for the night. No will to post about the same things for the rest of the evening.

Goodnight

Why are you obviously "not happy their (sic) crying"? To me it shows how passionate they are and how much they hated to lose this game.

I'm thrilled they were crying. Meant don't want to be happy that someone is crying in general.
