playing up tempo pays off

Funny, because it's the same playbook under Hackett that you've been slaughtering for the last 2 years. Speed it up a bit and now it's style.

No it is not the same playbook as it was 2 years ago. Go back and read what Marrone had to say in the pre-game about USF defensive coordinator Cosh and if he was rewatching the Pinstripe Bowl (Cosh was DC for KSU). Marrone was convinced that the Pinstripe Bowl was irrelevant to USF because we didn't run the same offense then as we do now.

I don't need to read what Marrone said because i have seen with my own eyes. We ran a different offense for that game but this is the same playbook that we had day one.

The playbook has evolved to such a degree that it wouldn't be recognizable to a member of that 2010 team. That team relied on Carter's legs while this team relies on a combination of Nassib's arm and a decent running game. Whether a small portion of the 2012 playbook was in the 2010 playbook is debatable. However that is a moot point because the offensive philosophies were so much different in 2010 vs 2012 it wouldn't have mattered. They wouldn't have used 20% of the plays that they call in 2012, back in 2010.

They wouldn't have used them in 2010 but it was the same playbook. Every member on that team would recognize it.

We have had this discussion before. If you want to believe that the shotgun, uptempo, one back, spread was in the thickest "playbook", fine. But they weren't giving that part of the playbook much actual use.
What matters is the formation, style, and schemes the staff brings into game day. And we can all see that the approach this year is very different from the meat & potatoes style (blocking FB, two runs to get into short yardage, possession pass on third down, usually to a tight end or H back) that we saw in previous seasons.
