I see that Depaul changed it up and decided to go easy on opponents.
Precisely. Much easier to do this with less visible teams and with players who aren’t making big money. It makes sense that these are mid-major teams. If I was a Henry Hill-type trying to fix a basketball game, I would want it to be for a team that is extremely under the radar with as few national eyeballs as possible.
That was Nick Nolte’s downfall in Blue Chips. You had Dicky V calling Western games. Needed to be more low key.Precisely. Much easier to do this with less visible teams and with players who aren’t making big money.
You do know that was a movie, right? Oh, never mindThat was Nick Nolte’s downfall in Blue Chips. You had Dicky V calling Western games. Needed to be more low key.
But, but... refs made calls against my team that I didn't like!!Just pushing back on you a bit. If you are 100% certain there are more than a handful of referees are corrupt and involved in point shaving, I’m assuming you have direct evidence to support your claim.
Or are you just being hyperbolic for the sake of your position on the matter?
Aren't a number of those Big East schools, and wouldn't some players on those teams have to be involved? And if so wouldn't those teams end up being banned from tournaments, also wins that players were involved in taken away, because of their participation?![]()
20 charged in connection with rigging college basketball games as part of FBI investigation
Federal prosecutors charged 20 people in an alleged point-shaving scheme involving dozens of college basketball players, according to an indictment.www-cbsnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org
Games involving the following teams were allegedly rigged or impacted, investigators say: Western Michigan University, Butler, St. John's, Tulane, East Carolina, McNeese State, Nicholls State, St. Louis University, Duquesne, La Salle, Fordham, SUNY Buffalo, Kent State, Ohio University, Georgetown and DePaul.
Perfect example. That was Nick Nolte’s downfall in Blue Chips. You had Dicky V calling Western games. Needed to be more low key.
I'm almost positive that Blue Chips, Space Jam and Air Bud were documentaries. You do know that was a movie, right? Oh, never mind
I would think that betting on an individual player's performance (taking the under) is more risky than betting on the team. If there was a significant amount bet on a player, that would likely raise eyebrows. The irony, if you read the indictment details, is that they often lost their bet even with the designated players underperforming as promised but the overall point spread still got covered.
If I were so inclined, why would I bother to bet on a TEAM's performance when I can bet on an individual player's performance
which is guaranteed to pay off.

Most iconic lines in movie history:Kevin Bacon was in "A Few Good Men" with JT Walsh.
Walsh was in "Blue Chips" with James Arthur Boeheim.
The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
If not in that article I read elsewhere it involved player contracts.Wonder if St John’s firing of their GM has anything to do with it?

St. John’s fires men’s basketball GM Matt Abdelmassih, who was reportedly on administrative leave
“Look, it's never good to see people go, but in the eyes of the university, it was very warranted, so we move on,” coach Rick Pitino said.www.nytimes.com
I agree but I wonder if that makes it easier to get caught - how much is wagered on these level games? I would think $50 would raise a flag.It makes sense that these are mid-major teams. If I was a Henry Hill-type trying to fix a basketball game, I would want it to be for a team that is extremely under the radar with as few national eyeballs as possible.
No Now the best doc was King Kong. When the big ape attacked New York back in the 30'sI'm almost positive that Blue Chips, Space Jam and Air Bud were documentaries.
$50 wouldn't raise a red flag but you are on the right track.I agree but I wonder if that makes it easier to get caught - how much is wagered on these level games? I would think $50 would raise a flag.
