Whatever name is eventually appended to the Dome, I hope it’s one word like the Tesla Dome or the Uber Dome and not some clunky name like the Outback Steakhouse Dome or the Progresso Minestrone Soup Dome.
Maybe paint it light blue and call it the Viagra Dome. But then you’d need seat backs everywhere so people could sit erect - hopefully for less than 4 hours.
I’m sorry. Don’t be too hard on me.

I say the Dome, usually, but there’s something iconic about SportsCenter transitioning to the Big Monday game and them showing, and audibly announcing, “Coming to you from the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY for a matchup between ... “

That’s the only thing synonymous with “Carrier Dome” in my mind.

I'm hoping for the Chrome Dome, with plenty of WiFi access inside.
When my kids were little and we lived in Liverpool, I'd sing "We're going to the Carrier Dome" like an advertising jingle.

Reminds me of the Carl Eilenberg days, "Ladies and gentlemen, Syracuse University faculty, staff, alumni, fans, friends, and to our visitors from _____, welcome to the world-famous Carrier Dome."

The NYS Field Band Conference has their Championships every year at the Dome. We never called the event "Championships" or "States." We always just called it "The Dome."

If UTC had stood behind all the promises that they made to the Syracuse community when they bought Carrier I'd have no problem with calling it the Carrier Dome, but.

They lied through their teeth, and I say screw Carrier (and UTC) any way you can. Left a never to be forgiven grudge against those corporate pirates. They played CNY and the University.

This thread is pretty dumb everyone trying to convince each other they never use Carrier when referring to the Dome when that’s been it’s name forever.

Most people do just say the Dome but still.
Be careful using absolutes. I don't think most have said they never use Carrier.

But "The Dome" has been the common designation locally, at least once the fans got used to having the building on campus.

Not debating the naming rights controversy. Just wondering how commonly we use these names.

I grew up referring to the building where SU plays as “The Dome”. It seems to me that most New Yorkers choose simply “The Dome” in casual conversation whereas “Carrier Dome” is used in tv and print.

What do you say?
“Hey are you going up to “...” for the big game tomorrow?”

I called it the Carrier Dome until...

1) they laid off a lot more people they originally said they wouldn’t, then,

2) when the building clearly changed and really became a new building in 2019-2020.

I am thirsting to have brand loyalty to something called “The (Brand) Dome” so I know where I should spend my disposable dollars.

(Note: this is my contribution to help land a new sponsor paying mega $$$.)

You may know it as Istanbul, but it’ll always be Constantinople to me.

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.
And Albany was Fort Orange which should have been in Syracuse for obvious reasons.

SU fans = the Dome
SU fans in the closet = Carrier Dome

(Everyone is a SU fan. Some people just don’t admit it ... yet.)

Ahem, that’s Nieuw Amsterdam. :)
