Possible coach candidates...

I want to stay far away from Rhule I want offense offense offense. We have tried the other way the last 15 years time to try something different.

Order of importance?

For me:

1. Offensive coach with a CFB system that works
2. HC experience or a super high FB IQ (i.e. understands and is ready to be a HC)
3. Ability to recruit
4. Thinks outside of the box

Oh, also if some of you are wondering why a lot of HC's and OC's arent on my list. I was specifically looking for candidates that had any ties to the east coast at any point in time. Like some of the Texas guys, I don't see coming to upstate NY after spending their entire lives in Texas.

You missed Yurcich OC at Ok St he's got ties back east

Just looked him up. He sure seems to understand offense that's for sure. Not sure how many fans would get excited about him based off of his current experience. He needs a couple more years in FBS before people take notice, including recruits. I honestly have never heard of the guy until just now. lol

That said, this is the type of guy that could be a homerun. That said my feeling is you go hire the best fcs head coach out there if you miss on a couple bigger names.

He recruited my kid before he took the OC job at Ok St...he was running about 79-80 plays a game back then....don't think he's doing that at Ok St....great guy....

Did a little more digging into the recruiting abilities of what seem to be the top 2 candidates. Scott Frost and Mike Sanford Jr.

Frost- Has pulled some nice recruits out of Georgia, and Florida. Also recruited a safety out of Plant high school named Eric Dungy, which I thought was interesting. Nice to see he has relationships at Plant for sure.

Sanford Jr.- Has pulled good recruits out of Florida, North Carolina and Virginia.

Both have recruited nationally due to the programs they work/worked for. Sanford Jr. has experience recruiting really good players to Stanford, which is a more similar profile to Cuse than Oregon.

Essentially, they both seem to be strong recruiters, but have both had the advantage of recruiting to teams that were already good and recruiting at a high level when they got there.

I liked the sounds of Frost just a little bit better. Throw in a good DC and we should be in good shape.

Some other tidbits about them.

Frost is 40, and has been coaching for 9 years. Has experience coaching Offense and Defense.

Sanford Jr. is 34, and has been coaching for 10 years. Has been an offensive guy his entire career.

They both have been the primary recruiter for numerous top QB prospects.

Frost has six ,3 or 4 star QB's committed in his 6 years at Oregon.

Sanford Jr. has four, 3 or 4 star QB's committed in his 5 years at big time schools. Stanford, Boise State and ND.

orange_in_VA --> a few weeks ago, didn't you want to keep Shafer another year? Just curious.

The coaching D by Frost I like and especially if he's been good at it. You can tell by how Oregon's O is that he's doing the right things. A few games ago they were looking mediocre but they pulled that upset last week at Stanford then pretty much took care of USC at home today. Imagine what he could do for Dungy and Mahoney along with the rest of the O.

Frost unit rankings:

DC at Northern Iowa in 2008 - cant find exact number, but they were top 25 and were the #4 team in the final FCS poll.

OC at Oregon- 2013 - 45.5 ppg, 5th in total offense at 537 ypg.

OC at Oregon - 2014 - 45.4 ppg, 2nd in total offense at 565 ypg.

OC at Oregon - 2015 - 38.0 ppg, 8th in total offense at 533 ypg.

Sanford Jr. unit rankings:

Passing Game Coordinator at WKU - 2010 - 23 ppg, couldnt easily find total offense rank. Assuming it was low though. WKU finished 2-10. Willie Taggerts first year as HC there.

OC at Boise State - 2014 - 40 ppg, 20th in total offense at 476 ypg.

OC at Notre Dame - 2015 - 36.2 ppg, 27th in total offense at 468 ypg.

I still want to give him 1 year for a couple reasons, but I think the writing is on the wall that he is gone. Therefore, I'm trying to see what options are out there and do some more in depth research on possible candidates. At this point I will be fine either way, I just really want to know which way that is.
