So it is clear that the big10 will not have a team to fill its slot for the pinstripe bowl. The ACC also has more eligible teams then bowl game tie-ins available. If both SU and butgers (who play win less UConn) win this weekend will become bowl eligible. How much would you want to see that match-up?

I for one am already excited about the possibility.

However depending on where we fall in the league standings at the end of the year we may get stuck with a shitty ACC bowl game. Could SU try and opt for the pinstripe bowl if it is an option or would we be stuck taking the military bowl where fans wont travel as well.

Wouldn't ND take the B1G's spot in the Pinstripe Bowl?

I think there are only 4 teams in the *big12* (my bad) who can be bowl eligible this year. and ND i don't think has a tie in with them. Plus I think there may be bigger more attractive bowls for ND to pick.

Rutgers is not in the B1G yet.

Yeah, that little fact eluded me. But wouldn't the PS Bowl be able to pick ND if the B12 does not have enough eligible teams?

I'd be totally fine with that! I've drove to both pinstripe bowls and had an amazing time both times. Just the whole experience of ny city,Yankee stadium, the snow covered fields, and hoards of cuse fans is fine with me! It may be a lower bowl ,but gets way more press than the other lower bowls. I mean you get your team colors up in lights in ny! You can have your bvaa whatever bowl or belk etc. Pinstripe has more swag imo...

Yes. In fact, several pundits who do bowl projections have ND in the Pinstripe.

Rutgers fans are thinking it's going to be ND-Rutgers in the Pinstripe. I will admit I don't pay enough attention to the tie-ins to know much about the whole thing.

notre dame has a back up tie in(to big 12 since this is last year of big 12 vs aac) with pinstripe bowl for this year.

I'm sure they can't wait to take credit when it sets attendance and ratings records too.
Well, ratings until the end of the 1st qtr when they will be losing 31-0.

I'd expect a different bowl as long as we qualify. Most likely either sun bowl, in dependence bowl ,music city bowl or some at large bowl if we go 1-1

Agreed Imperial. Any bowl is a good bowl for this years team. I hope the Orange win out and finish the year 8-5 with a bowl win and confidence heading into 2014.

Any bowl is a good bowl but I hope for the players sake they get to experience a different bowl/venue. 3 trips in 4 years may get a bit old.

They were hoping last year they didn't get the pinstripe. They wanted to go south. Doesn't matter, ND has that slot locked up.

What a great sports photo.

One of my favorites ever. As brutal as the weather was, it was a beautiful day for Syracuse.

hope they get it this year

I am expecting the military bowl to end up with Maryland since they aren't getting any money from the acc this year(withholding it for exit fee of at least 52million) so its a quick trip for them

Makes sense from their end, but do they have any say in the matter, other than declining an offer from a more prestigious bowl that will cost them more to participate in?

Or, since the ACC splits bowl revenue AFTER deducting expenses (per another thread where details haven't been discussed yet), would they be better off travelling a moderate distance and padding an expense report to add more to their side of the ledger in negotiations?

For easy math, assume the total of bowl payouts minus expenses is $28M, or $2M per team (if it's divided equally). I have no idea what it costs to go to a bowl game, but recall BE schools (where schools more or less kept their own cuts of the bowls they played in) griping that it cost them money to go to certain bowls. So it must be in the 6- to 7- figure range.
Which do you take?

OPTION A: Terps owe conference $52M, Conference owes Terps $2M for bowls, plus a few grand for expenses to a local bowl game --> Terps still owe conference nearly $50M

OPTION B: Terps owe conference $52M, Conference owes Terps $2M for bowls, plus $500K for expenses to a further bowl game travelled to under a tight budget --> Terps owe conference nearly $49.5M

OPTION C: Terps owe conference $52M, Conference owes Terps $2M for bowls, plus $3M for expenses to a further bowl game travelled to under a party time budget (fly out and provide per diem for anyone and everyone associated with the program, all 24 tubas, etc.) --> Terps owe conference $47M

As long as they can get the upfront money together, why not splurge and deduct it from the pending loss?

What if the Terps decline a bowl all together just to screw the ACC and save on traveling expenses? :noidea:
