Post Colgate thread

Against UCONN and Colgate. The rest of the schedule is demonstratively more difficult, starting next week when we get absolutely dog walked against Clemson.
at least I'll be trying to unfork my new iPhone all next weekend, so I can miss/ignore it.

- Hard to analyze against FCS. You can’t win sometimes… you blow them out and it’s Colgate and you give them some points and it’s Colgate.

- I get there was an opportunity for younger players with the matchup. However, the younger players are absolutely exceptional and if you take a step back and realize this team probably will treading water to 6-6 at best, you might see what Fran is building here. It’s going to be sick.

- Samuel is clearly a top SEC level talent. He has already improved every week. Some good breakups. As for the rest of the DBs, expect a ton of pass interference calls against Cuse this year.

- I didn’t like the pressure early Colgate was getting. They are a horrible pass rush team even at the FCS level, things improved as the game went on.

- Angeli was great. You give him time to scan and he knows where to go with the ball. Rickie was also fine once he settled in, smart of HCFB to take him out for a sec there.

- The before half d is abysmal. There is a huge emphasis it seems from erob on keeping everything in front of them… it almost cost them last week and it probably will by the time the season is over. There are going to be a number of close games and you can’t just spot teams points even if it is 3 before half.

- Catch the football.

- Gill was great needless to say.

- Hill obviously isn’t Tucker yet… but he sure looked shifty.

- Clemson regardless of what happens tomorrow is more than beatable.
Hill really stood out to me. He is extremely quick and shifty. Would love for him to get more run.

Carney is quick, Rickie didn't look bad after settling in a little, 2nd/3rd string defense not good.

Onwards.
outside of Samuels who is a game changer on defense? Duce is solid. I like Long. Tremble showed some good things, but the rest are just mid at best.
We gave up 25 First downs!!!

D in the first have was okay. Second half was most 3,4 and 5th on the depth chart. Not sure you can make a good evaluation after the first half.

This team is just streaky.

Seems like at several points in each game we've seen the Offense be flat and then the Defense comes out flat too or the Defense is sleeping and giving up big chunks of yardage and then the offense comes in looking sloppy after.

In all our games we seem to need something to give them a kickstart a few times a game. Whether that's a big catch or a big tackle or a Pick, just takes something to happen to wake them up and then they start rolling on both sides for a few possessions until they get sleepy again.

In the long run against a schedule like we have this year that's going to hurt. We're going to need the other team to make big mistakes and we're going to need our own big plays. I just don't think we are going to see 60 minutes of solid consistent football this year.

On the other hand we are built to upset better teams that we probably have no business beating under normal circumstances given our lack of experience and youth. An explosive passing game which we have again this year is going to be able to cover alot of warts on defense and with the Run blocking.

It would be easier to write off the defense as letting up vs an inferior opponent if we didn't have a season and 3 games worth of evidence that they aren't good

We gave up 500 yards to Tennessee, 430 to UConn, and 420 to Colgate.
Yes, we have to be better.
But there are a lot of young guys out there just learning how to play at this level.
Clemson is vulnerable next week.
If we get boat raced, then it's a problem.
I think we're going to stay close, though.

No, the second half is treated differently. First half winner takes recieve, defer, kick, or defend direction. If they take the ball, then the other team gets the choice of direction. Second half is reverse, team takes the ball, other team takes direction.

First half teams defer, other team takes ball, winner of flip then chooses direction.

Always good to have Bobbies back

Arrow up:
Gill looks like a throwback 80s receiver. Lean and tall. His athleticism catches you by surprise.
Tyrik Hill looks like a great find. Have to see if the Madden moves work against bigger competition.
Angeli was slinging it like Kyle a few drives in.
Tremble exploded into the backfield on that sack. Not sure why he can't get on the field at TE but would love to see him bulk up and become a pass rusher.
Samuels seemed to level up and is justifying the hype. Should be on the 3 year path to NFL.
Byron Washington looked like a mountain. Probably needs to improve conditioning to earn starter's time.
Gabe Daniels and Darien Williams didn't look like freshman.
Not sure if Luke Carney was the only QB with his helmet on or if he's the third sting but well executed QB run ice cold on the sidelines when the entire Dome thought he'd hand off.

Arrow down:
Offense line held up in pass protection but wasn't pushing Colgate around in the rush game.
2nd team defense seemed to get gashed more than I would like. Maybe they were holding back on blitzing and Colgate WRs made some high level plays but we should have a huge physical advantage there.
That first drive by Collins was hideous. Nice to see him recover and lead the team down the field in his 2nd drive.

Weird thing to say since Clemson might be one of the weaker teams we have left to play.

Agreed. I think Clemson is one of the weaker team we have left to play. My original statement holds.

Dion Wilson is solid. Jobity, Jaquez and Perry make plays, just not consistently. That's why we rotate a lot of guys, to keep them fresh.

DeLauriesiers and Bryant are pretty good LBs.

Deuce is over-rated, and too small at safety. The secondary has size, but is really young.
As per Fran "this entire team is young", some of our best players are sophs and freshmen which bodes well for the future and people staying for maybe 4 years like they used to.

Unfortunately, the front 4 on the DL are all seniors I believe.

Meh, whatevs.

Do we really care that upperclassmen who aren’t making a massive impact, will graduate?

There’s anyways the portal.

Did I misread what you originally wrote lol, I’m too lazy to look.

Clemson is gonna be brutal game for us with them coming off loss to GT. We might get absolutely destroyed on both lines of scrimmage.
