I agree with that and have no problem with it.I ask because I don't know the answer, but is SU in a position to schedule guarantee games for football? Ticket sales are flat and September, when we'd likely play the non-conference team, has become increasingly difficult to get fans in the door, further decreasing gameday revenue.
Seems to me that if we were to pay Buffalo $900,000 to come here, we'd lose money. It's one thing for the basketball program to pay $75,000 to bring in a tomato can; football might not be able to justify an appearance fee ten times as large.
I bet one of the American games the USF home game or UConn road game will be Friday night ESPN affairs.
I also I would bet one of NC State/Virginia Tech/Louisville will be played on a Friday night.
I think UConn game and Virginia Tech games will be played on Friday night.
Also Florida State likes scheduling a 1-AA before their game against Florida so I highly doubt we play the 2nd to last week. I also highly doubt the ACC will give us home/road/home/road to end the year. I think we will either see 2 home or 2 road games in a row.
With past precedent I expect the ND game to be followed by one of Louisville/Clemson/Florida State.
UMass plays home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Here is an interesting scenario:
Say the Dome is remodeled and we lose most if not all the 2017 season...I propose the smart thing to do is play those two open dates away at lower end G5 schools. Might as well pay off the pain in '17. Maybe at a school like UMass, UB, Kent, ODU, Charlotte, FAU, FIU...( schools used as an example).
Another option is one away at one of the schools and a game against Colgate at Cornell.
The problem here is that because Syracuse was so horrific attempting to schedule games under the former AD, UMass is not available for 2017. Almost no one is. Despite the fact that we have been burned repeatedly waiting until the last minute to schedule OOC football games, we have never learned our lesson and continue to be left with almost no options in future years.UMass plays home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
We should schedule UMass in 2017 at Gillette and bank a future home game.
Play Central Michigan/Wake Forest and the I-AA team at Ithaca
Play Clemson at Metlife.
Play Boston College at Yankee Stadium last game of the year.
Play Pittsburgh at Ralph Wilson in Buffalo

Check out this article by John Cassillo from TNIAAM. If what he says is correct, there are only 6 schools left who have an open date in 2017: Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, Florida International, Tulane, UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe. In actual practice, Tulane might be our only option.
As this article points out, this isn't just a problem for 2017. Subsequent years are also in really bad shape. This is why Maryland is scheduling games with Charlotte in 2022 and 2023. You have to be proactive if you want real control over who you play (and if you want to ensure you play 7 or 8 home games a season).
I hope that the new AD does a better job booking OOC games well into the future. Scheduling plays an incredibly important role in helping to determine future W-L records for a given program. We have to do better here if we want to re-establish the program as one that consistently goes to bowls and has winning records. It is really maddening to see this happen over and over since it could be correctly so easily.
Well at least from guys named Mike who live in Tompkins Countyif we are rolling on offense and scoring 50 a game we can command twice our normal ticket price in ithaca and make out pretty well![]()
