Post Your Future Cuse Schedule

Wouldn't have to pay that much...Buffalo would arrive by bus

I don't think at this time we should do buy games for more than $500k

Since the B1G is not going to schedule non-P5 teams in the future, won't there be many schools (especially in the Midwest) that will take a one-off payday?

First of all I would hope Herm has nothing to do with the schedules since he has screwed us already. For the 1AA games I would like to play a three year rotation of Colgate, Holy Cross, and Fordham. SU would be nuts to play more than one P5 a year so no more games needed there. Anyone who has that just doesn't get it. The rest of the games should be strategic areas where we recruit. We should have an Ohio MAC every year for recruiting. Unfortunately none of those teams have an open slot in 2017 or 2018 (thanks Herm). In fact very few options exist for 2017, so we are in trouble. The other games should be in Florida or Georgia.

2017
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh
Road: Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Miami (FL)

  • 09/23 - at LSU
  • Holy Cross
  • Tulane
Weak home slate but it is needed with the hard road games.

2018
Home: Florida State, Louisville, NC State, North Carolina
Road:
Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh

    • Fordham
  • at Georgia State
2019
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh
Road: Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Duke

    • 08/31 - Holy Cross

    • at Kent State

    • Georgia State
Since MD isn't great we could go with a stronger team like Cincy or Temple here, as long as it is at home. Ditto for the Duke game not being too hard.

2020
Home: Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Georgia Tech
Road:
Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh

  • Colgate
  • Kent State
  • at Tulane

I ask because I don't know the answer, but is SU in a position to schedule guarantee games for football? Ticket sales are flat and September, when we'd likely play the non-conference team, has become increasingly difficult to get fans in the door, further decreasing gameday revenue.

Seems to me that if we were to pay Buffalo $900,000 to come here, we'd lose money. It's one thing for the basketball program to pay $75,000 to bring in a tomato can; football might not be able to justify an appearance fee ten times as large.
I agree with that and have no problem with it.

It is my position that we need to do what is necessary with our schedule to make it as feasible as possible to get to at least 6 wins and a bowl game. If you look at what other schools have done to turn around a losing program, the common theme is to schedule a bunch of easy wins OOC and try and break even or close to even in conference play.

Getting to bowl games, getting the program winning again is the most important thing. More important than fannies in seats, more important than money in the bank.

Once you establish the program as a winner, the attendance will increase as a result and the money you invested early to start winning will be returned to you tenfold.

UB is special in that because they are so close, they might well take less money to play in the Dome, as they only have to bus to Syracuse and back.

I think the AD office has been way too concerned about the short term revenue than the long term numbers. That should change. ASAP.

I bet one of the American games the USF home game or UConn road game will be Friday night ESPN affairs.

I also I would bet one of NC State/Virginia Tech/Louisville will be played on a Friday night.

I think UConn game and Virginia Tech games will be played on Friday night.

Also Florida State likes scheduling a 1-AA before their game against Florida so I highly doubt we play the 2nd to last week. I also highly doubt the ACC will give us home/road/home/road to end the year. I think we will either see 2 home or 2 road games in a row.

With past precedent I expect the ND game to be followed by one of Louisville/Clemson/Florida State.

do some research fsu has their 1 aa following there labor day night game vs ole miss so it will be conference game or there only bye week. we had 1 home 1 away to end last year so no reason to think they will try to do the same this year. were away in the last week since it rotates and we were home last yr

Here is an interesting scenario:

Say the Dome is remodeled and we lose most if not all the 2017 season...I propose the smart thing to do is play those two open dates away at lower end G5 schools. Might as well pay off the pain in '17. Maybe at a school like UMass, UB, Kent, ODU, Charlotte, FAU, FIU...( schools used as an example).

Another option is one away at one of the schools and a game against Colgate at Cornell.

UMass plays home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
We should schedule UMass in 2017 at Gillette and bank a future home game.

Play Central Michigan/Wake Forest and the I-AA team at Ithaca
Play Clemson at Metlife.
Play Boston College at Yankee Stadium last game of the year.
Play Pittsburgh at Ralph Wilson in Buffalo

The problem here is that because Syracuse was so horrific attempting to schedule games under the former AD, UMass is not available for 2017. Almost no one is. Despite the fact that we have been burned repeatedly waiting until the last minute to schedule OOC football games, we have never learned our lesson and continue to be left with almost no options in future years.

Check out this article by John Cassillo from TNIAAM. If what he says is correct, there are only 6 schools left who have an open date in 2017: Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, Florida International, Tulane, UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe. In actual practice, Tulane might be our only option.

As this article points out, this isn't just a problem for 2017. Subsequent years are also in really bad shape. This is why Maryland is scheduling games with Charlotte in 2022 and 2023. You have to be proactive if you want real control over who you play (and if you want to ensure you play 7 or 8 home games a season).

I hope that the new AD does a better job booking OOC games well into the future. Scheduling plays an incredibly important role in helping to determine future W-L records for a given program. We have to do better here if we want to re-establish the program as one that consistently goes to bowls and has winning records. It is really maddening to see this happen over and over since it could be correctly so easily.

horrifying article.

I don't think Syracuse can play NYC 2x in the same year.

only way, is if its say ND at Giants and then storz at Yankee.

or bite the bullet and play Fordham at Yankee.

but again, those games wont be till Nov, so theyd need some help from the ACC to do so.

so if the Orange are forced out for a year, its gonna be ugly.

if we play a Clemson at Giants Stadium, that will get about 45k there...and if we then play a BC at Yankee...youre talking 20k.

better off just playing it at cornell or somewhere else close where the same 20k # can show.

regardless, that 1 year will be an adventure.

if we are rolling on offense and scoring 50 a game we can command twice our normal ticket price in ithaca and make out pretty well :)
