Let’s be positive and look forward to next season!
Bring on Le Moyne!
Bring on Le Moyne!
Brutal season.Starting this with < 3’ left down 14.
I actually thought we had a good chance to win this tonight. Unfortunately much of the game felt like an intramural run.
No big surprises though, we had a 32 game sample size for this team already.
Looks like we will finish the season with 0 quad 1 wins and 2-16 in Q1+Q2.
Thus ends the worst season in 56 years.
(From a different perspective— good luck to all of the guys that are no longer playing college ball after tonight on their next chapters.)
In the business world, people have to fly their slot.If you invent a fictitious role for him and think he had anything to do with player evaluation last year before he was even hired, then sure, he's an utter failure.
Kline was hired in August. Carlos came in April. How can so many of you be this friggin ignorant. It’s not rocket science. The other stuff is just you needing to be angry at something. Here we go. I know the timeline, as I posted (and people agreed with) on another thread.
Using your reasoning (and the person who was upset at an earlier post):
Kline just sits in his office 11 months a year and has/had no input on the team during the season. He's the "GM", which means "advanced scout", unlike Andrew Luck and/or Stephen Curry.
He uses analytics to identify the best players who will absolutely come to Syracuse because we're a destination, like the Knicks. Just like James Dolan, Syracuse has unlimited funds (up to the salary cap) to spend on high school recruits and transfers.
"A new position, the general manager supports Coach Autry in managing various aspects of the men’s basketball program at Syracuse. The primary responsibilities include scouting and recruiting, former student-athlete engagement, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, transfer portal management, and institutional fundraising in collaboration with University Advancement.
In 2016, Kline became a basketball operations assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans of the NBA. During four-plus years with the Pelicans, Kline assisted with college scouting and player evaluation. He provided information used for the NBA Draft and free agency.
Kline was hired as a scout by the Knicks in 2020."
Nothing new. Syracuse has always been about $$$. We get 30,000 fans to attend games and they still cried poor. It was a cash cow for the University for many years... as JB came cheap and did not require expensive assistants. JB never used another job to generate raises. He probably should have been the highest paid coach given the attendance/performance. Do we think he was? Of course not.He kept him because we can't afford to get rid of him. It's the most telling statement on our program and the biggest concern about the future. Success from here on out is going to be tied to $ and I don't think we are wired to compete that way for the long haul.
I hate this argument. How about slowing the game down then? How about prioritizing PT based on care for the ball? PT is your leverage.I am not saying Autry is a great coach but he is not out on the floor turning over the ball and making stupid decisions handling the ball.
Don’t even neee to go that far. Look at Louisville, a peer.i look at other schools like Drake and Missouri. Completely overhauled their programs and both are going to the dance. Missouri was a train wreck last season way worse than us. Drank lost their coach and basically won 28 games with a division 2 roster.
We need better player evaluations done. I hope Kline can be that guy.
I feel people are going to be disappointed on the portal additions. Now back up the truck and go get more talented players.
Seasons like this make it tougher to recruit. You get branded a loser. Just like long down and out pro teams, we will have to overpay free agents to get talent to come here. Hope we realize that and have the bag ready.
wrong. money won't be an excuse next year. Listen to Wildhack's recent interview.I feel people are going to be disappointed on the portal additions.
SU is not going to backup the truck with money for basketball. The majority of the money is going to Fran.
I know people will disagree but I’m to the point where I’d give Coach Jack the money over Red at this point. I feel she has the ability to put a better product on the floor to watch. Either way the majority of the schools and donors money is going to football.
In the business world, people have to fly their slot.
But as the "GM", he didn't have ANY advice on various aspects of the program, during the season?
None? He's just a scout?
The NCAA ≠ NBA.
We can't lure top-tier talent because we don't have the cash.
This offseason will be telling.
Sure... we will offer $1M to 5 guys that go elsewhere for $1.25M and a chance to win. The only difference is the numbers for which we were outspent. Last year... we made offers for $3M... this year it will be $6.5M.wrong. money won't be an excuse next year. Listen to Wildhack's recent interview.
I think there’s a decent chance guys go elsewhere because we are a toxic mess. Not because of money.Sure... we will offer $1M to 5 guys that go elsewhere for $1.25M and a chance to win. The only difference is the numbers for which we were outspent. Last year... we made offers for $3M... this year it will be $6.5M.
Jaquan Carlos was our starting PG and all that guy's job was to scout and identify talent from other teams. There is no reason to keep him either.
Yeah, I'll believe when I see it.wrong. money won't be an excuse next year. Listen to Wildhack's recent interview.
We won two of our last three gamesLet’s be positive and look forward to next season!
Bring on Le Moyne!
Yeah I am on record the rest is going to be a problem that likely only a new coach can fix.Yeah, I'll believe when I see it.
Plus, everyone is going to have money. But the major issue will be getting good players to commit to this disaster with a lame duck coach as it is going to be nearly impossible without massive overpays. And even then, there's no guarantee of getting them to come. This player pool will also be lessened without the 5th year COVID super seniors.
At the same time, a lot of people put up with a lot of stuff for a paycheck. If we are offering $1M and Duke is offering $750k... what percentage of kids will take less to go to Duke? Some, but not most. Usually, money will talk.I think there’s a decent chance guys go elsewhere because we are a toxic mess. Not because of money.
Mad hops, that Easter Bunny.
When the money is close it still comes down to overall recruiting and program health IMO.At the same time, a lot of people put up with a lot of stuff for a paycheck. If we are offering $1M and Duke is offering $750k... what percentage of kids will take less to go to Duke? Some, but not most. Usually, money will talk.
However, it is not a 2-horse game. If Duke is offering $750K and we are offering $1M, chances are that many other schools are in the mix and that one of them can/will offer $1.15M. So we have the choice of overpaying at $1.25M to get the guy or losing him.
So... if the plan is to overpay to get us back to competitive, so be it. But if we think that just throwing more money into the pot solves the problem, we are underestimating things considerably.
I get it but I think it could be a completely different environment than what they're planning for. Basically, they have all the money they could have wanted last year but the price to play is going up a lot.wrong. money won't be an excuse next year. Listen to Wildhack's recent interview.
I like Petar as a guy we can rely on in 2030 to come off the bench. Otherwise I agree. Not a single player on this roster should be back in 2025-2026, and neither should the coaching staff.
