Postgame Thoughts….NC State

Boys shot well and Cole had a breakout game. Buddy showing flashes of Tournament Buddy and Jesse continues to be the guy.

Saw more negative comments than I thought I would in the game thread about the win and the caliber of team NC State is. Having seen what this team has put up in 60 minutes of play this year, I am very happy with the win and hope we can keep this thing rolling! LGO!

That’s the recipe for this team. No score = no bueno.

We’re not going to win a defensive battle.

Not very often you get 5 guys between 16 and 20 pts.

  • I felt confident at Halftime, feeling NC State wouldn't shoot as well in the 2nd half
  • Swider's shooting confidence was the difference. He makes us a different team on offense
  • Girard played well at times, but saw some reversion to last year's hero ball
  • Jesse is a stud-He does everything you can ask a big guy to do-Great touch, blocks shots, runs the court and fantastic hands. Catches some difficult passes in traffic and on the move and converts
  • Buddy with some big-time shots
  • Jimmy with a nice game
  • We will need to outscore people, because the Defense ain't pretty

Defense improved enough the second half for us to pull ahead and stay ahead. We had trouble covering their threes but they couldn't stop us down low and we hit free throws. Starters did wall the scoring and were 11 points away from everyone scoring 20 points.

If we can get close to 90, we've got a shot. Great second half tonight.

Joe and Jesse really helped build our lead at the start of the second half. They've shown good chemistry this year and we need to make sure we feed Jesse off these rolls (8 assists for Joe). To that point...Jesse was unbelievable tonight. Finishing strong on offense, but dominating on defense in the second half. Incredible game from him, our best player.

Cole has really stepped up the last couple of games. A huge lift when he can make these shots. Hit a big 3 late.

Jimmy had a very quiet yet efficient game. Buddy made some key shots late, but otherwise fairly up and down.

Finally... the inbounds late that we had Buddy for the open layup on the full court pass was a brutal sequence. Thankfully we won this game, but that mishap led directly to a transition 3 (5pt swing). We used to run that play a lot (I remember Devo scoring off of it). It was nice seeing it but the execution has to be way way better. As bad as it gets there.

As always... winning > losing. Hopefully next game the bench can play more and contribute some more.

I said it before. Outside of Duke the ACC is weak. The game against ND on the road is probably the toughest of the next 6 games. But my faith in this team is low.
