Postgame Thoughts….NC State

Defense improved enough the second half for us to pull ahead and stay ahead. We had trouble covering their threes but they couldn't stop us down low and we hit free throws. Starters did wall the scoring and were 11 points away from everyone scoring 20 points.

NCSt shot 39 threes. I know zone D invites perimeter shooting, but man. 39 shots.

Cole deserves major props. If he can do this the rest of the year we will win a lot more games. He’s the focal point on offense next year if he wants to come back
Cole, Jesse, and Joe could be a ton of fun next year if we can put competent pieces around them. One dude away from being really good but those three could be the core of a solid ACC team if we have athletes around them.

Jessie is getting really good about coming out to relieve half court pressure. He shows good poise. With twenty plus pounds he is going to be a major force next year.

Cole went nutty. So confident tonight.

Jesse was beastly. As always, he protected the paint but he had a good many "manly" rebounds.

Jimmy was shifty - that scoop from the right side was so pretty.

Give Joe and Sy respect for handling NC State's pressure. Joe's ball handling while being constantly hounded looked good to me. Had a few smart dimes too.
I have to admit it was one of Joe's better games against pressure!

Offense was great. Defense was terrible.

Need to keep outscoring teams.

Lots to like on defense, starting with percentage of defensive boards, Jesse staying on the floor all game. Yes, they made a million 3's, but you know what, we beat THEM up inside, not the other way around. That's like the running game in football - if you keep scoring inside, drawing fouls and wearing the other team down, that's how you really improve your chance of winning a game.

I thought Joe looked faster/quicker, more direct & more confident handling the ball tonight… it was enjoyable.

Haha in the 2nd half when Buddy waived off help bringing up the ball & proceeded to get immediately stripped on a crossover in the back court was… something…

Great game! We’re cooking offensively over the last couple. Cole playing well makes a world of difference - that tough contested wing 3 to push the lead back to 4 is the exact shot he missed a few times in close games previously.

This team is different than the great athletic defensive, slog to 45 point Syracuse teams in the the early/mid 2010’s (which had a great success I may add).
