Potential 2025-26 Roster

The new limit will be 15.

I'd rather spend our NIL funds on 8-10 really good players instead of spreading it amongst 12-15 so-so players.

We'll be like the Yankees. Get the best starting line-up and rotation that we can afford, and pray that nobody gets hurt.
disagree

I want them to go the international route, which is much cheaper...

throwing in the towel on roster spots 9-15 is lunacy

there are no NITs for teams with losing records

Xavier got in last year with a record of 16-17.
They probably had to alter restrictions due to teams ignoring invites.

That being a big difference between 16-17, and wherever we will end up. We would need about 50 teams to turn down bids for our name to get called.

My guesses, based on nothing but gut feelings and random information mentioned.

Petar - 80%
JJ - 50%
Cuffe - 50%
Freeman - 40%
Moore - 30%
Chance - 15%
Bell - 15%

I think Petar showed some skills this year. I hope we keep him happy.

Freeman is the key. I'm not optimistic, but on the other hand, he could really explode here next year. He will be a bench player at an SEC school, their 3rd or 4th Forward.

I wonder if Bell can accept this bench role he has been playing. He's been shooting well in spot duty.

Moore was not handled well. Only one of him and JJ make sense coming back, with Anthony coming in. I'd be shocked if he's back. JJ could price himself out of here. We should not overpay for him. He needs to be our 3rd or 4th best player next year, if we hope to be a tournament team.

Cuffe deserves better treatment than he got this year, but he is becoming a more consistent rotation piece as he has played more this last month or so.

Too bad we didn't use McLeod like we have recently earlier in the season.

Like I said, none of these guys are good enough to be 36 minute players. The more of these guys who we play for meaningful minutes, we get what they can offer us. None of them are the answer, but we need them all.

I have to think that probably 3 of these guys won't be back next year, maybe only 2 if we are lucky and Freeman returns.

100% gone
Put yourself in their shoes - what has Autry done for them? And they want more of it?

Gone *12
Except maybe hopefully Petar
Choppa and Freeman? Fat *chance they stay.

The only two returning players who can actually shoot. I’d like to see Moore back. We need to move on from Bell.

I'd like to see Moore back, too. But with Anthony coming, it's either him or JJ who has to go, maybe both.
But then you need a 2G and a PG and a C and a SF to replace Bell. That's 4 starters. I just don't see Red drawing that kind of portal talent.

The shooting he may (may) be able to fix. The fact that he hasn't developed a left hand in over 20 years of playing basketball leads me to think that ship has sailed. I think it is time for JJ's ship to sail as well.

I wouldn't be shocked at JJ, Moore, Bell and Freeman all leaving. Freeman would hurt. The rest, we could do better.

Here’s what I know at current moment - will take a miracle for Choppa to come back, freeman wants to come back but will be most likely fielding nba interest first (he doesn’t seem too concerned with transferring AT THE MOMENT). JJ wants to come back but some others have other ideas. That will honestly be the hardest one to figure out. Petar back. Cuffe back. Bell gone. Chance no clue

That makes sense. I think Red will clear out the 2G for Kiyan and find a backup from the portal or Cuffe fills that role.

So much to rebuild for next year. I can see a team with only two or three players from this year.

Starting PG and Center are key
Need a backup SF and PF (or possibly starting opposite White)
Backup C
Need shooting
Need defensive minded players

5 transfers at a minimum. Can’t afford to miss on any of them. It’s a very tall order.

Have you heard any names of potential Portal guys? You don’t have to name names but I’m just curious if you’ve heard anything on portal additions. Thanks.

Center and PG will be priority. Excited to see who they go after. Luke can play though but I think they need a high power PG again

Cuffe - last 8 games - 15 for 34 from the field, 5 for 15 from 3, 7-10 FTs, 6 reb, 4 assists, 3 steals. He's an effort guy who plays defense and is not really a shooting guard, he's more of a combo.

He's not a PG in the halfcourt, but he can run the break. Cuffe is not a star, but he is a very useful rotation piece. I hope if he's back next year, Red has more trust in him, and uses him more predictably and consistently.

Luke looks very talented. Might have a bit of trouble adjusting to the speed and physicality. You're right that we need a stud at PG.

OK, so that would leave us with:

G: Cuffe, Fennell, Anthony
For: Freeman (?), White, Womack
PF/C: Petar

We need 4 guys -
  • Starting C
  • Starting PG
  • Combo Forward who can defend the 4 and shoot the 3
  • Back-Up C
And of course keeping Donnie Freeman.

Attn. Mods: "The 6th Letter of the Alphabet" shouldn't be a banned word. It's a position in basketball. My two cents. Thanks.

Kiyan starting at SG would be silly. He's a good player but he's streaky, if we wanna get to the tourney we need starting level players at all positions.

No, he shouldn't start. That's why JJ might be back, but he would have to accept being the 3rd or 4th option. We need a low post presence, we need a couple good 3 point shooters, dependable ones.

The PG has to be a stud, he has to be the alpha dog on the team, or maybe the Center. Both have to be very good.

The Forward we pick up has to be able to guard somebody else's 4 - weakness for Donnie last year, and you would expect the same from another frosh in Saddiq White. You need a better version of Jyare Davis - bigger, stronger, better from 3. Good enough to start, so that White can be the 3rd Forward.

We could keep JJ as a slasher, but not the primary ball handler, and not the guy to have the ball in his hands when you're running down the clock. He makes too many sub-optimal decisions, and doesn't really create for others, very rarely. He could be next year's energy guy for the offense.

That would make Anthony, White, Petar and Cuffe/Fennell as the rotation guys, along with the back-up center, for defense and maybe some offensive rebounds. We want guys who challenge people at the rim again.

That's a pretty decent group, if we can keep Freeman and shop at the top table again. We need 3 starters and a back-up center. That's a lot.

I guess if you’re JJ’s camp and you see an article saying that the 3rd string C at Lville is making more NIL than you, of course you would look into what else is out there.

He's not good enough to overpay for. Too many bad possessions.

Is JJ the next JGIII who gets buff in his 5th year?

Honestly I credit Girard for not only what he did last year at Clemson, but helping lay a foundation on who and what they are now.

Even with all their faults, we need Freeman, Moore and Starling to return. We are not a hot destination and we do not have the NIL dollars to attract many portal players. We will need many bodies next season.

I don't know, Moore was one of the worse defensive two guards I have watched play at SU. Marty Head bad. I know he struggled with his shot, that was disappointing. But the defense was atrocious. Freeman is a good athlete but was consistently beaten on defense. Overall a poor defensive team, but those two along with Chris Bell just seemed lost almost all the time. I have seen some late season i.provement by Chris. If Moore were coming back I think Red would have given him a little run this week.

Nice. JJ has really disappointed lately and I really am trying to weigh the good with the bad for next year. I just cannot get around the mentality he brings, the leadership is not there for a 3 year ACC starter. He's just not been part of winning programs, his record is something like 20-40 in ACC games along with 2 injuries now in 3 years.

Next year will be one of the most important seasons we have "again" and putting that on JJ's shoulders is not the way to go. The PG we bring in needs to be the best we can afford and if we keep JJ because we're getting a good deal he needs to be playing support not being the guy.

I think Salami from White Shadow could be a sleeper as a combo guard and wouldn't cost a lot of NIL.
He showed real guts taking on his abusive dad. That showed team leadership potential
