Potential 2025-26 Roster

If you want to win...

Portal PG/Fennel/Cuffe
Portal SG/Anthony/Cuffe
Portal SF/White
Freeman/Petar
Portal C/Portal Backup C

This is assuming Moore isn't coming back regardless. Everyone else needs to go. If Freeman doesn't come back, he will need to be replaced also with a Portal PF. We need to pull a Louisville/Michigan and change out our roster.

You’re setting yourself up for disappointment. You’ve called for an elite, proven PG: a 39% from 3PT power5 SG, and an elite shot blocker/rebounder at the 5. You also want to give Freeman a raise to keep him.

We do need all those things you listed, but we won’t get them all in one offseason. At best we can keep Donnie and get one of the things you mentioned. It’s not fair to Red to expect all of that.

Red has a ton of work to do. And there is not one place on the roster that you can point to say “we’re good there”.

Lampkin is a fine player but was a mistake as our big NIL piece. We can’t make that mistake again.
Unless someone has 25 million lying around they don't need, can't see Red getting the players he needs to be ranked in the top 20.
To me that's where we need to get back to, otherwise just blow it up, and start over.

Starters:
PG- Stud PG transfer
SG-Moore
3rd guard- Starling
PF: Freeman
C: stud defensive center. Doesn’t need to average 10ppg. Just be a menace on defense

BENCH:
Kiyan
Fennell
Sadiq white be the 6th man
Petar back up minutes at PF and C
Get a young transfer sf/pf with potential
Get a young center transfer with potential

Womack redshirts

I have a really hard time seeing Moore come back. I would never play Starling at the 3.
I also don't think we'll see players redshirting much anymore.

This is a terrific comment. Situational substitutions is valuable thing that our coach needs to be much better at next year.

What is the one thing that Starling does that a top tier team will overpay for?

He’s a poor outside shooter. He’s a terrible defender. He doesn’t rebound in an above average way.

He’s a driving scorer. Do we really think someone will open the vault for that?

LOL. He needs three top flight guys at PG, 5 and SG. That’s not a $25 million price tag.

who in Freeman's camp is telling him to go pro? Or... will another school give him $900k-1.2m?

Moore, Starling and Freeman? Somebody has to play defense. Who is going to rebound? Kids do not redshirt.

I hope so.

We need to spend a fortune this offseason. Empty the coffers. I'm talking deficit spending. Take out loans

??? Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post but who is “we”? Whose “fortune”? Whose “coffers”? Who’s taking out “loans”?

Starling can do well on one of those well coached teams loaded with solid players that excel in a system ran by a very good coach (ie: Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan State and Auburn). Mostly non-descript, average or borderline NBA players who knows and plays their roles well, and not asked to do more than what they are capable of. Coaching matters.

But all those coaches require their players to play defense no matter how small their role might be.

Come on. SU. The school. The one that needs the hoops program to return to its past level of succcess.

And I get it Bees, this is where you say “it’s the fans who pay”. But what that always misses is that it’s the schools job to extract that money. To provide a vision for investment from its fans.

We know that last season they had to go to boosters to get the money for Lampkin’s increased pay.

So when Kline and Red target some PG that costs $500K more than they expected, then they need to find that money, by any means necessary.

“Loan” was hyperbole but you knew that.

OK. So what does Starling do so well in that environment that a team would overpay for?

Every bit of your post made it sound like SU money.

I could be wrong but I think we’ll see a completely different style of offense next season(portal outcome dependent of course).
Maybe, but why can’t we do both? In 2009-10, we had a team that played very fast and got out on the break, but we also had big guys like Rick Jackson and AO who we could feed it into in the post and let them go to work. It doesn’t have to—and shouldn’t be—an either/or. You need a well rounded team. Same with 2008-09 and 2010-11. I think we need to prioritize shot blocking and rim protection at center but we also need a center who can be an offensive threat, similar to Jesse Edwards. Btw, What a difference Jesse would have made in Red’s first year. That’s a tourney team with him on it.

No point in redshirting kids anymore. That just saves them a year of eligibility when they transfer to another school or schools.

We’ll see. Some teams don’t have a driving scorer for their 6th guard.

Hopefully they can do a summer trip. Even Canada would be fine. They need all the practices and exhibitions they can get.
If JW won’t send the team to non-NIL tourneys anymore than I doubt summer trips are happening ever again.

Well it is SU money. It’s just that some of it come via the fans (NIL) and now some comes from the school itself (Player comp).

You make a distinction and play games with semantics, but I don’t agree with that. Like I said, SU’s job is to sell the fans on contributing to NIL. It may not come from their coffers, but it’s on them to facilitate.

The good DC, Sherm, Rony, Billy years we ran played defense went inside as necessary.
Let's get back to that type of basketball not using the clock for 25 seconds and an iso play.

That’s not what your post said at all. Not one bit. Of course they know they have to help raise money. That’s why Wildhack over the past year or more has met with business leaders, groups and individuals. But in the end NIL money comes from us.

You forgot the Shotput Free Throws

And my point was that they, SU, need to spend every bit of that money, as well as scratch and claw for more to field a tournament quality team next season.

You disagree?
