Preliminary Fine Mess Roadie (FSU and/or Ga Tech)

My buddy at work went to FSU and we have been talking about flying up for thsi game once we declared for the ACC. He's told me so many stories about gameday, and the whole gameday weekend - from parties, to the girls, the crowd, everything. Sounds amazing.

If you get tix, count me in as 100% for a few. I can't wait to fly up for this game.

My sister lives in ATL so easy trip for me to sell to my wife! Hopefully my 1 1/2 year old son can handle a long road trip by that point.

Can't wait until dates are announced!

Great to know. I've been to the one in DC and it's just not the same. I was at Fado frequently when I lived in Atlanta in the late 90's.
Fado moved (4 years ago) off of Peachtree St due to a new mixed use development that needed the space...still in Buckhead, in a new building...it now has 3 floors including a rooftop deck.

Gonna try to do Penn State (obviously) Maryland (easy trip), Ga Tech (have family in Atlanta) and FSU (see: bnoro's post). Might even consider getting Dome season tix if my weekend work schedule isn't too hectic.

Additional information (as of 14 Jan 13):

Florida State:
- Last years tickets pricing for groups was 20-50 tickets, $30; 51-100, $25; 100+ $20. Tickets prices should be about the same, may change slightly, but not much if they do change.
- Go here to see where the seating for visitors are (gray areas): http://ev6.evenue.net/evenue/linkID=fsuse/core/seating_charts.html
- I am researching and working on parking for the tailgate. FSU parking is controlled by the Boosters, all other parking is first come, first serve type (people/business selling spots on game day for $20/space type thing)...nothing specifically organized. So I am going to work on contacting and researching some places that can accomodate us.
- Further information about FSU: http://www.seminoles.com/

- Some restaurants in Tallahassee recommended by my POC at FSU:
-- Burgers: Monk's (http://www.wellsbrothersbarandgrill.com/)
-- Seafood: Harry's or Andrew's (Harry's: http://hookedonharrys.com/) (Andrew's: http://www.andrewsdowntown.com/)
-- Steak: Marie Livingston's (http://www.marielivingstonsteakhouse.com/menu.html)
-- Other: Kool Beanz Cafe (http://www.kool-beanz.com/)
-- Italian: Buca di Beppo or Bella Bella (Buca: http://www.bucadibeppo.com/restaurants/fl/tallahassee/) (Bella Bella: http://www.bellabellatallahassee.com/)

From JJReddawg:
Z. Bardhi's - Italian http://www.zbardhis.com/

El Patron - Mexican http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g34675-d1948661-r146118462-El_Patron_Mexican_Grille_Cantina-Tallahassee_Florida.html

** Haven't been to any of those restaurants yet, but I will try to hit at least some, if not all, and post reviews about them in this thread. Also, of course if I discover any other good places other than listed here, I will post as well.

Restaurants I/we have tried with my rating:
Barnacle Bills (http://barnaclebills.com/): 3 out 5 - Posted review on Page 4 of thread.

Hotel info from JJReddawg:
Also, if anyone is looking to stay outside of Tallahassee, I'd recommend looking at the Best Western Rose City Conference Center Inn or Hoilday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Thomasville, GA.

Georgia Tech:
- Not much info right now, although we have a POC there now too.
- No ticket pricing right now.
- Seating...groups can sit anywhere depending on how much group wants to spend.
- Parking for single games is taken care of by a third-party company that they work with directly. When the time comes they will make sure to set up something to accomodate everyone in the the group.
- Link to GT Athletics: http://www.gatech.edu/sports/

We will provide more information as we get it.

JJ...thanks for the additional info...will have to put those other restaurants on my list to check out...

The GaTech Tix guy responded...group rates start at 20+ seats and get progressively cheap at 50+ seats and then 100+ seats. Pricing will be announced soon.

Would be nice to have a separate forum to place all this information...ahhhhemmmm admins...

Also, would be nice to get information on restaurants, hotels, etc. from anyone in the GA Tech area...

I think I am going to UMd, GT and FSU, so it really doesn't matter to me which is the Fine Lot event.

Did some preliminary checking...looks like it will be a lot cheaper to fly into Orlando or Tampa and drive North than fly into Tallahassee. Jacksonville would also be considerably cheaper.

Tallahassee is about 269 miles from Orlando, Tampa about 285 (242 if you dare not drive on Interstates) and Jacksonville 174 miles. On the random weekend I selected in mid October, it was about $500 to fly into Tallahassee, about $400 to fly into Jacksonville and about $250 to fly into Orlando or Tampa.

There are deals under $200 to be had for Orlando and Tampa if you are flexible on dates. I think I am going to end up flying in from one of those cities.

Thanks as always Mark for doing what you do, making it so much easier for SU fans to do road trips (and ensuring the experience people get is as good as possible).

WAR DAMN OTTO! ROCK THE DAMN ACC!

Tallahassee is an awful town, why don't you do NCSU instead?

I want the big time Southern football experience. Didn't go to Auburn or Tennessee. FSU and Clemson might be as good as it gets for this for the next 20 or 30 years.

I have been to Raleigh a few times. Nice place. I have nothing against it. Might end up going to that game too if the dates align and airline prices aren't bad.

But I would rather go on the other 3 ACC road trips. A big part of it is that this could be the last time SU plays Maryland at Byrd in a long long time. I want to take advantage of my one sure chance to visit this drivable venue (and watch SU play).

Similar thing with GT. Unless sometimes changes, we won't be back there for a regular season game (note my careful language) for another 12 years.

A couple other places to check on to fly into are: Dothan, AL; Ft Walton Beach, FL; Atlanta, GA and even New Orleans are other possibilities. Not sure what the costs are for those locations, but those are at least other options. You can also check Panama City, FL, but that is typically more expensive than the other local/regional airports.

Already have been looking into the FSU trip. Just waiting for the schedule to be set. Count us in for 3 tickets.

We took a family trip to Panama City when I was younger. A tough airport to get to, and we ended up spending a wasted night in Memphis on the way down. It is an easy drive from there to Tallahassee and we went for an FSU-Clemson basketball game. The atmosphere was basically the opposite of what it'll be for football.

New Orleans to Tallahassee is 385 miles. Given that New Orleans is expensive and hard to get to from Syracuse anyway, I think that is a non starter. Atlanta is a more reasonable 266 miles and one of the rare places you can fly direct to from Syracuse. A quick look at prices indicates it is about in line with Jacksonville; around $400. If I was willing to pay $400, I would opt for Jacksonville and the shorter drive.

The best case scenario for me, being selfish, is the game being scheduled in mid November, when I could make it a combo football/golf road trip, and play down in the Orlando or Tampa Bay areas for a day or two before heading north to the game.

Fort Walton Beach area had flights in the $460 range. Dothan was in the same range, as was Mobile. Nice to have options.

Thanks for the info...

Panama City has SouthWest and Delta...a brand new airport. If the game is in mid October...this might be a great play...as the gulf is still warm enough to swim and rates for Motels are way down. The only downside is a possible late season hurricane. Drive is about 75 minutes from the Beach.

Pensacola is another airport to check.

Personally for Upstate NY'ers...I'd look at flying into Orlando (SYR or ROC) or Tampa(ROC) as airfares are usually low, rental cars cheap and nonstop flights are offered.

Mark, keep me in the loop. We may be able to combine with the Atlanta alumni club to potentially get lower prices.

Pretty sure the lowest price is for 100+ tix. Ask the Alumni club how much they'll charge after the group rates are known. I'd rather have one group 300 fans versus two groups of 150. Also ask if they want to work with me...but I'll be bringing in non alumni.

I think all postgames should be held at a Tilted Kilt, whenever possible.
