Delaine had a terrific offer list out of HS. Glad to see he’s stepping up.If Delaine can emerge as a viable CB candidate option that would be great news as we have literally heard nothing about him since He got here. He did have 75 tackles and 5 pics his senior year of HS. At 180 lbs it would be good if he could put on another 10 lbs to put him at the same weight Garrett Williams was at the same height. He was at only 172 lbs last year so at least he is moving in the right direction.
YupExperimenting in fall camp on the OLine is never a good sign.
When we win 8+ games that is whyLB is a crap shoot to guess depth in behind Wax. So many super talented guys in that room it’s remarkable. DL is pretty straight forward and I agree with that. WR is more right then not. OL is tough. Not sure if Kentucky transfer will start? Is that what we are hearing elsewhere as well? A lot of options in that room, a rarity for us. I am super excited to see what the young guns in the DB room provide. So much potential but unproven. Seeing that crazy Greg Delaine interception video was promising that we may have some ballers in that room we just don’t know about yet. Overall this team has so much depth it’s so refreshing. We have legit P5 depth for first time in who knows when.
A lot of uncertainty is a given after you lose the C, and both starting OTs from last year’s group and now Ellis is sidelined in a boot per a report.Yup

For a set in stone, rock solid OL
You could poll twenty people here and get twenty different combinations of who they think will be or is the best group for that position.
Really shouldn't be that much uncertainty.
Clear indicator of why they were shopping hard for transfer talent.
Wouldn't surprise me if the starting five come week five is three of the new guys - More, Wohlabaugh, Reed on one side of the line with Bleich and Cruz on the other.
Agree, I think it’s at least partly a function of all the new faces that may be better than what you were bringing back. They have between now and Purdue to figure it out. First time in forever the schedule is set up,for success.A lot of uncertainty is a given after you lose the C, and both starting OTs from last year’s group and now Ellis is sidelined in a boot per a report.
Cruz is a given and Bleich if 100% healthy. Then you have the 3 transfers you mentioned, plus Ilaoa who is a probable starter, with guys like Petry and Bradford somewhere in the mix. The coaches are cross-training and as fans we are reading tea leaves with very little to inform our guesses.
But this is temporary — 2 weeks from now, we will have an official depth chart and then game action.
I am not worried about our receivers. Gadsden, Alford, Long, Adams, Brown, Pena, Jones, and Hatcher r a legitimate wr corps. If we get any running game going this year, we will have a good offense. As everyone says, comes down to the big guys.I thought a couple of position groups on the second string was interesting. She had the transfer lb on the second string. Have not heard his name mentioned at all through camp in the limited coverage. Also Brown over Kendal Long. Seemed like Long was having a good camp. OL who knows at this point. Still think someone other than Wilson will be the starting cb. Also do not see greenwood in the two deep with all the additions at S.
Little over two weeks until we all know. Let’s Go Orange.
Why are we the only team who moves guys around constantly. We need to seed guys in a spot so they know exactly what their teammate next to them is gonna do and how he is gonna do it. Good oline don’t swap spots constantly. We need 3 weeks of same spots, same line, and same practices to build a chemistry between each other up there. If I’m left guard and we run middle zone, I gotta step with center to neutralize nose or 1 shade and then get off to backer. Well each guys steps r different so without cohesive practices in the same spots it’s always gonna be different with different people. I know we have oline guys on this forum. Please if I’m wrong help me understand better as u guys have lived it ya know.Experimenting in fall camp on the OLine is never a good sign.

All teams cross train to an extent, but ideally you’d have the pieces in place as you describe. The issue at SU is we just haven’t consistently had the pieces (talent) in place where we have guys lined up at their respective best spots just ready to step in if called upon. The factories can do this, we haven’t even been close to that, so we’re forced to cross train more than others. Why are we the only team who moves guys around constantly. First real game is in a month. They have time to get it sorted. And they need to know who can fill in where. Why are we the only team who moves guys around constantly. I think it depends on the individual player. I am a basketball guy, coached and played for over 30 years now. Some times I have had guys who can learn every spot and some who can barely grasp one position. If you have smart players who are versatile it makes sense to cross train, you want your best players in the game. I think it just comes down to the individual players ability to absorb knowledge in practice. Can’t have them thinking too much in game. Why are we the only team who moves guys around constantly.
