Props to AD Wildhack - he's better at his job than we are!!

To all the geniuses who dumped on the guy before he had even made a decision, I say enjoy the crow.
His 30 years hiring and firing high-priced talent prepared him for this job. He knew what he wanted and when he saw it he didn’t hesitate. That's why we pay him the big bucks.
Courageous risky decision that might just be the most important hire in the last 19 years.
Thanks John!!
Go Cuse!
Go Coach Brown!
Go Wildhack!
Great post for a great Syracuse guy!

The dissatisfaction is subtle now and manifests itself by dissatisfaction and questioning the decisions of the defensive coordinator, ERob. We won 10 damn games. Coach Fran loves ERob, so if you are questioning our Defensive coordinator at this point, then you are questioning the man who hired him and lead us to 10 wins.

I stand by what I posted December 17,2023: Orange Fans: Help Wanted, Seeking Encouragers Only, We already have enough critics and haters.

Dr Bill - it is entirely fair to question ERob’s coaching, given that our D was often mediocre at best.
And all the stats confirm this.
Along with the “eye test”.

We won 10 games primarily because our offiense was so prolific.

Are we not allowed to question the ST coach either??

You know - because we won 10 games and all.

ERob is Fran’s BFF, a great recruiter, and the players love playing for him.

But we had sooooo many not great calls
(Not doubling Stanford’s one great WR on 4th & 9???)
along with guys being out of position, terrible angles, and a ridiculous number of missed tackles in pretty much every game.

Being a homer who refuses to acknowledge any fault or lack of perfection in his own team, coaches, & players,
is in its own way just as bad as being a hater.

Don’t go full RutgersAl.
You never go full RutgersAl.

Didn't he hire Red Autry too?

I really like Wildhack, I feel he’s done a fantastic job and not every win and loss is on him. He also expects these coaches to perform up to expectations. Lets face it a lot of people felt Autry would be great here and he still has a little time but you don’t always know how hires are going to shake out. Brown wasn’t a popular hire by some on here I sure wasn’t excited right away either, but it has worked out so far.

Football is the key to every sport unfortunately even basketball. Autry did a poor job of piecing this team together but he also lost Starling who is our best player and he should have targeted a high end PG which he technically did, but went elsewhere. If Starling comes back and the Cuse go on a streak the Committee might look favorably on us given clearly our best player has been out during that stretch. We could argue whether or not we would have won those games but it sure would have been a lot closer. Let’s see what happens.

These are always weird posts, there’s a few posters that love doing this. You have an entire season (and before, since last years portal) where it’s been a love fest for Fran. Rightfully so. And 3 posters maybe imply something negative and a whole thread is created to claim “ALL those posters who didn’t believe…..” or some silly drama like that.

Well maybe you might want to consider the brilliant minds that questioned our O coordinator after a single 3 and out. It is that loser's mentality that sucks. And it is frequent. As for eye tests, I seriously question the eyesight of so many. Haters are and always will be worse than homers. But hell with all this anyway. It is always good to strive for better. Happy New Year to all SU fans.

You can forget the tournament this year.

Im pretty excited i just put my 100.00 deposit down in two tickets for next year whenever they go on sale for newbies or people like me coming back, but the new coach hasnt taken the field yet so little early for some of the jargon. I hope you are right but i want to see with my eyes wins on the field or at least a product that is watchable
Don

After 1 year...you happy with the decision?

I’m not pleased with Autry, but I think he needs more time. His mistake was his portal pickups, but that too might get better as the season goes on. Taylor, Carlos and Lampkin looked better yesterday and Davis has had some big moments. Coaching is hard when you don’t have all the pieces you want as a coach. It’s easy to make adjustments when you have quality players. When you don’t, you’re constantly trying to find a rotation or someone you can trust to play effectively. Losing your best player and best athlete doesn’t help. Autry is respected in the coaching community. Being a head coach at a major program is a different animal. Let’s see how things shake out this year. It looks like the team is still listening. Reports about what the players are thinking after yesterday’s game are encouraging. I still think this team has the pieces to be a good team. We have to get JJ back ASAP. We’re starting to see a role for some of these players. Cuffe, Petar and Taylor can be effective in certain situations. Even Carlos has been much better in the past few games. We need to get Moore going. He’s playing too fast and trying to do too much. He might be really effective in the new pressing style Red’s showing. We flat out need him to make shots. He might be potentially the most explosive offensive player on this team. It’s tough as fans when we want more, but this team needs confidence. There’s too much negativity going on right now instead of support. Tuesday’s game could be a huge turn around for this team.

I mean the layup hire Chesney was going to be made (which I wanted) until Fran popped up. And if we are bumping old JW threads it should be noted that Fran isn't even even in the actual conversation to be our coach if he doesn't pursue Syracuse and JW first.

But it took balls to ultimately make the hire so credit where credit is due!
The layup hire hadn’t even interviewed at that point though. Yes he was a finalist but we did have a process to interview everyone and Fran won it. Fran’s own outreach and his extensive recommendations got him into the room. Rest is history.

Who knows what would have happened with a different finalist in the process.

The Stanford call was unacceptable. But in fairness to Erod this year, our defensive players were not all that good. We had one guy place on the all league teams and he was 3rd team. Our offense was prolific because we had good players. And a great QB to get them the ball. Makes the game so much easier when you have good players. I like a more aggressive defense but so what? I don't know what I don't know. And that is probably true of the rest of the board.
