Wait, there are internet points?
I personally find it hilarious when big corporations mess up that bad. How many desks did that go across and still got the green light?Just an incredible gaffe by Pepsi
I have no idea but it was more than 1.I personally find it hilarious when big corporations mess up that bad. How many desks did that go across and still got the green light?
Really interesting documentary on the Pepsi point/harrier jet promo if you haven't seen it. It's the type of obscure history I into.
How did I miss that.
Did the commercial get updated? The linked video you responded to says 700,000,000 points which would be $70 million? The promotion and the offer
The lawsuit and its aftermath
- In 1996, PepsiCo launched its "Pepsi Points" promotion, where customers could collect points from bottle caps to redeem for prizes like t-shirts and sunglasses.
- A commercial showed a protagonist getting to school in a Harrier jump jet, which it claimed could be obtained for 7 million Pepsi Points.
- The commercial ended with a humorous disclaimer that the jet was for "fanciful" purposes.
- John Leonard, a business student, saw the commercial and realized that a loophole allowed him to purchase points for 10 cents each.
- He calculated that purchasing 7 million points would cost him $700,000.
- With help from investors, Leonard mailed Pepsi a check for the required amount, requesting the jet.
- Pepsi refused, stating the commercial was a joke and returning the check.
- Leonard sued for breach of contract and fraud, but the court ruled in favor of Pepsi, arguing no "reasonable person" would have taken the offer seriously.
- The case, Leonard v. Pepsico, Inc., is now a landmark example in advertising law, influencing how companies create and word their promotions.
I think the summary I pulled was off a decimal place or two ... regardless of the amount that is what went down LOL.Did the commercial get updated? The linked video you responded to says 700,000,000 points which would be $70 million?
According to Google, a Harriet jet is like $33 million. Pepsi might send you one if you mail a $70 million checkI think the summary I pulled was off a decimal place or two ... regardless of the amount that is what went down LOL.

Found my answer. From the Wikipedia entry for the court case.I'd be more impressed if they did an -22 Raptor giveaway.
ExactlyI would say this signing class was absolutely amazing considering the abysmal 8 game stretch. I thought we got all the key guys we needed and the 2 that flipped were whatever.
