Class of 2022 QB Connor Weigman (TX) Portal to Houston

I think people need to temper expectations just a bit on finding the next Kyle McCord, probably not going to happen again. I understand everyone’s got opinions but I think people are most likely going to be disappointed compared to the McCord move from last year, there was a relationship there that is not going to be duplicated. Personally, I’m hoping Jakari wins the job

Weigman is hurt often. I’m more excited about Luke Carney than anything. Kid is a slinger and Fran needs a slinger. I just don’t think he will be ready as a true frosh.

They will find someone for next year. That’s a bet.

It’s an interesting conundrum. On one hand if you are perceived as regularly pursuing portal QB’s, there is a chance it could adversely impact high school recruits at that position or, at least, allow for negative recruiting.

On the flip side, there is so much momentum at SU right now, if the staff sees someone as a plug and play for next year, I would think you have to take that shot.

agreed but if they have a young qb they believe in, gotta roll the dice and spend the NIL $ elsewhere. I just don’t know but we will see pretty quickly how much they like jakari. Another portal qb who can compete is one thing, them going out and spending the $ they did on McCord is another

There will be more QB's after spring practice, and Williams and Carney will both be in the spring practice.

I remember watching the A&M- LSU game where he was getting killed. May be more reflective of the O-line but I was not impressed with him. He was benched for Reed who is more mobile and they won. IMO, nowhere near the caliber of McCord.

What about Rickie Collins from LSU as an option at QB? I'm no evaluator, but seems like a talented kid. There seems like a bit of 'throwing mechanics' hitch but the talent is there. Perhaps Deuce can provide some insight?...just spitballin' here that's all.

Wasn’t he a former 5* recruit? He didn’t get there by being awful. I’d love to have him join and hopefully he’d be able to get a better start here.

Yes we don’t need injury liability players. We need guys that are durable that can last a season. I could care less what his star ranking was in high school.

I’d want him if the staff can see him being on the 2 deep. If not, I don’t want him anywhere near the program. We don’t need more CDRW’s and Braden Davis’s. We need guys even at the 3rd and 4th string that could be starters in a year or two and guys at the #2 that can step in and still help us win if needed.

Hardest pass on Weigman. He can’t throw it at all
Yeah, his completion percentage this season was 56%. I don't know if it was injury-related. But his career number is 60%. He has a cannon, but I would be very concerned about accuracy.

So - more of a SCUD missile launcher then? ;)

No doubt we want someone with a cannon, but we need to have the accuracy with it.
