Class of 2022 QB Connor Weigman (TX) Portal to Houston

Yeah, his completion percentage this season was 56%. I don't know if it was injury-related. But his career number is 60%. He has a cannon, but I would be very concerned about accuracy.
I have a friend that has 2 sons at A&M and know Weigman well. This kid has had off-the-field issues that the program has kept out of the press.

So - more of a SCUD missile launcher then? ;)
I just watched film on Weigman where a scout was dissecting and commenting on his best passes vs Missouri. His mechanics ie., drop back, set, throwing motion over the top to finish thumb down on his left side were all correct and I did not see any hitch in his motion. IMO watching the film he does have a live, strong arm. His fakes to his RB's and passing covered a range of routes: go, dig, slant, and more. 56% completion percentage is not very good however.

Then, I discovered this from Neil Adler:

Expert has Syracuse football a team to watch for Texas A&M QB, former 5-star prospect

By Neil Adler | Dec 4, 2024

A top expert says Syracuse football is among the programs to watch for Texas A&M redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman once he enters the transfer portal.

Five teams to watch for the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Weigman include the Orange, Missouri, Iowa, Louisville and Wisconsin.

Per ESPN statistics, to date in the 2024 season, Weigman has completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 819 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Southeastern Conference member Texas A&M is 8-4 overall and will play in a bowl game this post-season.

When I wrote this article on Wednesday afternoon, within its national transfer rankings, 247Sports had Weigman as four stars, No. 5 overall and No. 1 at quarterback, although such ratings will likely change as other college players decide to hit the transfer portal.

Syracuse football is a squad to watch for Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman, who plans to enter the portal.

As a member of the 2022 class, Weigman was a highly touted prospect who starred for Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas. According to recruiting services, he held nearly 20 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs.

Within his cycle, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed Weigman as five stars, No. 22 overall, No. 2 at quarterback and No. 5 in Texas.

For some context, it should be noted that Orange assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson, immediately before joining the top-flight staff of first-year head coach Fran Brown, served as the interim head coach and co-defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.

Syracuse football, in the current campaign, is 9-3 overall and checked in at No. 22 in the latest College Football Playoff top-25 rankings unveiled on Tuesday night. The Orange is going bowling for the third straight year, led by record-setting senior quarterback Kyle McCord.

But looking ahead to the 2025 term, McCord will have moved on, hopefully to the NFL. I am curious if the Orange staff is intent on landing a veteran quarterback out of the portal this coming off-season.

The 'Cuse does have several signal-callers on board for its 2025 season, such as freshman Jakhari Williams and redshirt junior Carlos Del Rio-Wilson. Syracuse football also has a pair of 2025 three-star commits in Luke Carney from the Dallas area and Rich Belin from New York City, who both officially signed with the program on Wednesday at the start of the early signing period for high school seniors.

Just reporting what I have seen today about Weigman.

I remember watching him in the ND game at the start of the season, didn't look pretty against a good defense coupled in with the QB change to Reed in the LSU game and I'd say he's well removed from 5 star talent at this point. That's not to say Nixon couldn't max out his strengths.

You have to allow our coaching staff, esp. Nunzio and Fran to choose which QB in the Portal is the best for our program experience wise, has great mechanics, and throws a good ball accurately.

We're going to find out who they see for the future soon, not only the QB, but others who may want to play for us as the Portal opens Monday.

I hope we can get some good talent.

It’s Fran, we will!

The fact that people on this board didn’t want this kid but rather have Luke Carney start as freshman is just baffling and I’ll never understand it.

That’s not going to happen

Yeah I know! But still the fact that people were even saying there’s a chance…and that those same people didn’t want Weigman or any of the past 5stars.

Yeah the 5 stars are irrelevant. Weigman has actually played college footballs. For the most part not well…

Agreed. If he were currently a 5 star worthy, he'd be playing like a 5 star.

Salter was good for one year in a gimmicky offense (McCall wasn't good for NC State this year before the injury) and Weigman just isn't a winning P5 player.
Excuse me gentlemen, but Weigman is out of the conversation after committing to Houston. If you think we still have a chance at him, and I do not think you want his skills after reading the threads, I believe you should stop talking about him and conjure up someone else you think we have a chance at. :)
