The other thing that PMO with the BS PI call was even if the receiver caught it, he was well short of the 1st down. Those refs were just not going to allow us to win that day.
I was living in NYC watching that game; still livid about it. I had to post here because I saw that play over and over at the time in TV. Just incomplete on 4th down, thinking what a sweet win for the Orange - then a late flag, What? Literally stealing the game from SU.

Dan Villari called and he said the Tennessee game officiating was the worst he's ever seen. I believe he watched the film when doing his research on Syracuse.
Hard to comprehend that Dan was born in 2002. June 29th to be exact.

I would go to the spring game even if the only thing I could see was Dan playing a few series at QB. It is nice to see us building some depth at multiple positions. Very nice.

Just to put some additional context around this, Tennessee played in the dome in 1998 in the opener. It was Donovan McNabb's senior year, and we were poised to spring the upset. Game went right down to the wire.

But since the game was in the dome, there was an SEC officiating crew. And they called it least two, possibly three, uniform violations against Syracuse before plays were run. Apparently, the infraction was that the football pants weren't below the knee, or some goofy explanation. Up to that point, I'd never seen that call made at any level, in any game before.

I remember a couple years ago watching a random college football game, and the same penalty was called. Brought back bad memories, and it's the only time I've ever seen it flagged.

But overall, it's smacked of the biased SEC officiating crew doing whatever they could to give their team an advantage.

As mentioned, the game went right down to the wire. It was fourth and long, and Tennessee through an incompletion. Only to have a late flag come in from a referee who was out of position, calling pass interference. It was BS.
I was 2 years old when this happened so that explains why I was confused. J always knew that there were rough calls in that game, but not that specific penalty. WOW. I mean wow.

So if my math is right at the current time.

60 returning scholarship players from the tacked post
2 returning rotation PWOs (Cooper, Darton)
13 Early enrollees

That's 75 players for Spring. Minus anyone sitting out with injury (assume Bleich).

If it's 74 players for spring, that would seem like a record. And no reason you can't have normal practices and a normal spring game.

Gentlemen, Dan Villari is a player, not a recruit. Please take any further discussion to the football forum.
