QB Dillon Markiewicz transferring to Texas State

Best of luck to Dillon, we will need to grab 2 QB'S this cycle 1 high school and 1 portal, really hoping next year either Morgan or Lamson is ready to challenge Garett for the starting job.

If only we had a game that was over pretty early where at least one of the guys could see some real game action.

This seemed inevitable. Can't imagine there are going to be a lot of transfers hoping to join in on a competition for a backup spot given that it now looks like we have an established starter for 2022 and 2023.

If I had to guess, the most likely outcome is that Morgan heads back south as well so that he can go compete for a starting job somewhere and we are staring at a depth chart of Shrader, Lamson and whatever freshman we hopefully add in this class.

I'd be surprised if Morgan transfers before spring. Right now he's one snap away from starting. If he falls behind Lamson in the spring, it would make sense.

Agreed, I don't see anyone other than grad students or walk ons wanting to sit at #3/4. Obviously no one wants to waste their entire college career on the bench. I don't blame them as long as they do it the right way.

Morgan's family seems sold on Syracuse. He was the first player from his HS that was recruited by a D1 program.

The offense has changed and this isn’t a pocket passer oriented offense. So it’s in his best interest. Morgan and Lamson are better fits. Not surprising and smart move on his part.

I'd be shocked if Morgan transfers, he didn't even have G5 offers let alone P5 ones when we were desperate and came calling. He is going to get a great degree and who knows perhaps a shot to play ACC football, compare that to the offer sheet minus SU out of HS and he'd be taking quite the risk to enter the portal.

I don't anticipate it happening during the season but could at the end of the semester. We were getting smashed on Saturday with a QB that passed for 46 yards(not sure to lol or cry) in the game and he still didn't get on the field. That tells me that Dino has minimal faith in him and that the gap between Shrader and Morgan is so significant that he would rather have Shrader still get the reps during an absolutely embarrassing performance. So if you're the #2 do you really just hope that the #1 gets hurt and at some point you get to play? And then if he doesn't, it's 2024(year 5) before you get a chance at getting on the field?

A lot of people in the thread seem to be projecting what they want to happen instead of looking at it from a kids perspective. I absolutely DO NOT want him to transfer but putting blinders on and saying it's not going to happen is dumbfounding when #2s are leaving programs all over the country as soon as they see their path to starting for multiple years blocked. I don't know who if any QB is going to wait around until year 5 in a program to get a shot at starting regardless of what their offers out of high school were.

I had high hopes for this kid when we got him. I mean Texas’ all-time yards leader coming in as our QB? I was really hoping our late recruit was a kid who would prove everyone wrong who didn’t offer him. Oh well…

Listening to some CFB radio stuff a few weeks ago,, Pretty much the feeling its gonna be hard for any team to to keep a 2 deep on the roster at QB now.. You either have to be an elite school where kids think they need 1 yr of playing to go pro or the #2 is gonna jump because they think they can beat out a #1 someplace else with a clean slate.
Is there a limit of transfers? Could a dude transfer 4 times before eligibility is exhausted?

I don't know that garbage minutes keeps a guy anymore than the possibility of the starter getting hurt does. If he is absolutely unhappy as the 2nd string guy and wants to move down a level to compete somewhere else, I can see him leaving when you say. There are only so many starting jobs. Right now he's one snap away. If he ends up getting beat out by Lamson, he's quite a bit farther away.

So you get immediate eligibility one time. If you want to transfer after that, you have to sit a year. In Tex's case, that would cost him a season of eligibility.

I suppose you could transfer as many times as you're willing to eat a year of eligibility. So, math wise, three times?

When the #2 doesn’t get any run down 40, the #3 guy figures he might as well transfer.
Is he a throwing QB?

Why would he stay here if we are going to continue to start an innacurate TE at QB, with zero WR help even if he improves???

Where’s the future in that?

I’m waiting for Tucker to leave, why stay if you know to expect 11 in the box going forward except for garbage time??

Think Tate Martell is on school 3 or maybe 4 at this point.

Any QB that doesn't think they can win a camp competition vs GS should give up the sport.

GS is already 0-1 in those btw with us. I like the guy but I am not penciling him in for the next 2 years at all.

If he has 2 bad games to finish the year he likely won't even have a leg up on Morgan or Lamson. All options should be on the table.

Dillon was never going to see the field here. There’s a reason he had few offers. I wish him the best, but why are we having much of a discussion about him entering the portal?

Had the opportunity to meet his parents at a couple of games over his career. I don't know if they make it to every game, but they make it to most, and they are incredible people. Really stand-up people and they are Orange through and through. Wishing Dillon a successful and healthy rest of his career. I hope he ends up at a program that allows him to excel.
