Class of 2024 - QB Jakhari Williams (GA) COMMITTED / SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE (6/25/23) | Syracusefan.com

Class of 2024 QB Jakhari Williams (GA) COMMITTED / SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE (6/25/23)

Can't find an offer from Syracuse.

Decommitted from Ga Tech on May 10.

From The Athletic's most recent write-up on ACC recruiting:

Georgia Tech

National rank: 37
Number of commits: 6
Average player rating: 86.05

It’s been a busy month at Georgia Tech. Four-star quarterback Jakhari Williams decommitted on May 10, three-star quarterback Aaron Philo committed on May 11 and four-star running back Duke Watson followed Williams and decommitted on May 12. Philo’s pledge to the Yellow Jackets so quickly after Williams decommitted — or “parted ways” with Georgia Tech, as it was reported locally — surely wasn’t a coincidence.

It’s fascinating, regardless. Recruiting rankings can be off, but Williams is ranked a full 700 spots higher (!) than Philo, a former Minnesota commit. What does this staff see in Philo that the outside world might be missing? And what’s next for Williams? Georgia Tech feels strongly about Philo, but the pressure is on for him to live up to the staff’s evaluation. If the Yellow Jackets are going to return to prominence in the ACC, it has to start with strong quarterback play.

I wouldn't worry about the top 5 schools for now. Could be a lot of factors. He's only been on the market for weeks and had been committed to GT since November.

Here is the scouting report on Williams courtesy of 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins:

"A dual-threat talent with a stronger arm that can whip the ball to all different levels. Owns an athletic build and is pushing 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. Tested in the upper percentile spring before senior season, which isn’t surprising as he can also attack the rim on the hardwood. Ability to extend plays and evade pressure is without a doubt one of his biggest strengths at this stage in his development. So is his vision as a runner in the open field. Might have no issues trying to move chains with his legs, but has also shown that he can stand in the pocket and go through his progressions. Prep highlight tape is loaded up with some impressive throws, but must continue to improve accuracy after completing just under 60 of his passes as a junior in one of the Peach State’s lower classifications. Should be viewed as a plus athlete at the quarterback position with a higher ceiling that can win games at the Power Five level on Saturdays if he keeps progressing."

Other offers that Williams holds are Virginia Tech, NC State, Pitt, UCF, Liberty, Troy, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, and Coastal Carolina.

Reading between the lines it does seem to me that GT decided to go get a different QB.

The on3 website said Williams was a player that shined at the Atlanta regional Elite 11 but the All-day site did not mention him.

While I enjoy all of these comments so far are we just going to neglect the fact that not only is Macon Georgia the home of our new recruit but also the one and only allman brothers band. S/o to the big house! Love it.

Man already a good class and we might end up adding our 2 best commits today in Williams and Love. If we get Love and Haile too…we are a top 30 class at the all day site I believe. Crazy how subpar last years class was and how great this class is shaping up to be. Top to bottom, great class so far. Add Love and Haile and we are on fire.
