Mike SianoI think Scott Schwedes was the last guy who tried to do both, but he wasn't a LAX starter.

Yup, and that's the perfect way to express that.Didn't think you could do this but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I agree It used to be called the Santana Moss Rule. He was a top receiver at Miami who did not get a football scholarship because the 'Canes were on probation and had lost some scholarships. So they put him on a track scholarship. They closed the loophole by establishing a hierarchy of sports: football-->basketball-->etc. with the scholarship of a multi-sport athlete assigned to the higher-ranked sport. As far as I know, the rule still applies.Didn't think you could do this but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In Filardi's case, that would be football over lacrosse.

Maybe Filardi is a really smart kid and he's getting a ton of academic money?
Coach Mac didn’t let him play lacrosse. He wanted to as it was his favorite sport, if I recall. He was a high school All American in lacrosse.I think Scott Schwedes was the last guy who tried to do both, but he wasn't a LAX starter.
Faison of ND--I believe the difference is that Santana Moss and those guys were getting full rides via track and other sports to circumvent the sanctions. In this case Filardi is only getting a partial scholarship via lax.
Maybe he'll start on a lacrosse scholarship, but, if he gets on the field for football, he'll have to be switched."I'm technically a walk-on for the football team and on scholarship for lacrosse," Filardi said.
Huh.
Faison of ND--
He was on a full lacrosse scholarship, and he starts on their first midfield.
He was a walk-on in football, but became a starter during the course of last season. Was the MVP of last season's Sun Bowl. So, they gave him a football scholarship. I don't know if they were forced to do so by rule. But one can't be on two athletic scholarships at once.
Jordan Faison Earns A Notre Dame Football Scholarship
Former Notre Dame football walk-on and lacrosse player Jordan Faison is now on football scholarship for the Fighting Irishwww.si.com
That article says he was.You sure he was on a full lax schollie? That seems unlikely. Assuming he wasn't the shift to a full fball one makes sense.
I think kids who are on academic scholarships, who are also playing football or basketball, should be forced to wear a special jersey. Maybe have it say NERD on the back. Or have tape on the middle of his face mask and a pocket protector. We can’t just have these kids running around out on the field without being able to quickly recognize them.Maybe Filardi is a really smart kid and he's getting a ton of academic money?

You know, every once in a while I start to lose faith in the board's collective ability to think critically, and then I read a post like this, and my faith is restored.I think kids who are on academic scholarships, who are also playing football or basketball, should be forced to wear a special jersey. Raio is another big time lax prospect. Currently committed to UNC for LacrosseI'll take Jeremy's word on the LAX side. But from his film it is obvious that he is loaded with FB talent. Once he gets on the field the staff is going to find him.
Side Note: Nice catches by WR #9 (Anthony Raio '25, #107 on Tom's 2025 NY Prospect list).

I have no issue with that. However if he is 4th string on the FB team...Lax scholie should take priorityI would think there may be some sort of a rule where if he plays a certain number of games in football he would need to be counted as a football scholarship. But if he doesn't really play he doesn't. I mean if some kid is primarily a lacrosse player and maybe a more of a borderline football recruit but also wants to see what could be in football on the side why should he be refused that opportunity because of scholarship numbers in football.
