Class of 2023 QB Marcus Stokes (FL) Portal to Memphis

People make mistakes, sure. Doesn't mean I want to have them on my alma mater's football team.
On last night's Villanova vs. Michigan game, the late Colt Brennan's name came up as his cousin is one of the Villanova players.

I don't remember if he was signed, sealed and ready to be delivered to Cuse, but then there was pushback due to a previous transgression. Which was a shame.

And, what about these eight 14 and 15 year old kids from Philly who got busted at D i c k s Sporting Goods in Florida yesterday for stealing $2000 worth of merchandise. What if one of them becomes the next Allen Iverson. Looking back, I'm not sure I would have wanted Iverson, but I give credit to Big John for taken a chance, although he may have just been selfish, he definitely did a solid favor for a young man who was brought up in a wrong environment.

Let me get this straight. He posts a video at 17 years old of him singing a rap song where the lyrics have the n-word in it. Sounds like a teenager being a teenager these days (of all races). Is there a history of racist posts by him? If so, he got what he deserved. If not (which appears to be the case here), this is a total non-issue. Maybe not the smartest thing to do in today's cancel culture world we live in.

There are hundreds of other kids that deserve the opportunity to play for Syracuse football too. We don't have to do mental gymnastics to root for people!

Again, it's not getting held over his head, he's currently on scholarship and playing football elsewhere. I just hope his next stop isn't SU.

Also, not only did he say the word, he recorded HIMSELF singing the word, and then decided to post it on the internet. Completely self inflicted.
I have never used that word in my life. There are other words I have never used. And If I saw a video of the same kid actually saying it to another person, I would be with you. But a kid singing a stupid song, I am much more lenient on. We never really know the context. I will give you an example. We had a woman's soccer player a few years ago use that word among others when she was drunk and it was caught on video. She was thrown off the team and has lost jobs over that video for years now. Just so happens, I have known the girl since she was a child. Her dad and I went to high school together. She never used words like that until she went to Syracuse where she was dating a black football player and hung around his teammates where that word was thrown around on a regular basis. All I am saying is that knowing the kid and the background are important. This kid could be a shady kid and we are better off walking away. On the other hand, he may be a good kid that said something stupid.

Agree 100%.

I’m not sure why we are worried about this. We’ve reached out to him. There’s no signs that he’s actually interested in SU. We will reach out to a lot of guys in the portal and have no chance to get them.

Well said, dasher. Context matters.

His life isn't ruined, he's literally playing football and getting a college degree.

How exactly has he "paid his dues"? Did he do any additional work besides his apology?

Do you know he hasn't?

He walked into a female's dorm room at Colorado drunk and exposed himself
So yeah a serious transgression and honestly I don't fault the university for not letting him on campus

I don't get the hate for Liberty. All three of our kids graduated from Liberty and we have never had issues. You can hate on the Falwell's, but they had very little if anything to do with the education you get from Liberty.
Other then the Falwell's all I think of off the top of my head is discrimmination and censorship. Repeated violations of the Clery act and punishnig woman for coming foward with reports of sexual assault.

Totally get each person experience is different but they have a terrible history.

Its a pretty big distinction here that alot are missing...its not like he was going around saying the N word with a Hard R (Looking at you, Morgan Wallen). This is a rap lyric using the other version of that word. Its totally different

Yeah. I was just going by his assumed behavior at Hawaii and that he seemed to turn his life around, but in the end the demons were way too much. This article is pretty in depth talking about Colts life, and his ultimate death.

Colt Brennan, Hawaii's Heisman nominee, went to "the dark side" - Sports Illustrated

Oh I'm 100% glad he turned it around
I was simply saying I see why the university passed on him
