QB play

It's
Nassib's brain does become overwhelmed and it is like freezing. It goes back to the fight-flight-freeze system in the brain. The brainstem senses fear and the limbic system becomes aroused. If the arousal is too heightened it overloads the cortex, and thinking, seeing, processing suffer. He is normally a very rigid personality and when he senses danger on the football field his brain flips and becomes chaotic.

Nassib's personality off the field seems very rigid. I wonder sometimes if he is open to coaching. Either way, Nassib needs to widen his comfort zone or else he will continue to struggle when he senses danger on the field. He needs to be very prepared and play with a better football IQ. And he needs to self-talk in a way that overrides the arousal in his limbic region and brainstem.

Marrone went all in with Nassib, and the pressure is on for Nassib to grow more into his potential because he's falling short and he has been for a while.
It's called an anxiety disorder as I have stated previously. He is simply too anxious to function.

It's something that can be worked out with the right attention.

like benching?

Haha. That's one option. I think it's too early for that, but I might start giving Loeb more reps in practice just in case. Nassib needs to work on his emotion regulation and work to be more open and receptive to what is going on around him. If he can learn to sooth his brain with solid prep, better awareness and self-talking down heightened arousal he will see the field better under pressure and make fewer forced throws. When he throws the 95 mph fastball to the TE it's because of fear or insecurity. Nassib is his own worst enemy in that regard. He can breakthrough this issue, but he needs to be open. If he keeps trying to do it his own way he will continue to fail. Right now it's like he's banging his head against the wall over and over and over.

A QB who dsn't have touch/accuracy along with WR's who are slow is a dangerous combination. Dangerous in this situation dsn't mean good for SU.

The qb/wr situation is terrible. None of the guys on the field are Bcs caliber players. Unfortunately the one guy with that talent doesn't see the field.

Not BCS caliber? That's a bit of an exaggeration.

Nassib did not get the FG blocked. He did not commit all the penalties, some that put us in bad position. He did not miss blocks that caused sacks. He did not decide not to go with the jumbo package on the 3 with first down. He did not drop several passes including a TD. He did not cause us to try a 50 yard FG when it should have been a much shorter attempt. He did not fumble the punt (tho Rene was down). Did he make mistakes? Yep. But he doesn't stand alone.

Btw, that first INT it doesn't matter what other receivers were doing. It was a 3 step drop quick slant. You don't sit there and survey the field and go through progressions. The rutgirls kid did a nice job.

Ok. That is fine. He also doesn't have the "it" factor. He has a powerful arm. Everything else is extremely average at best.

He was absolutely responsible for the 50 yard Field Goal! Rutger's brought a blitz, I could be wrong but they brought more men then we could block. The offensive line and RB gave him a great deal of time to get rid of the ball for the amount of blitzer's Rutger's brought. He needs to release the ball, throw it away, instead he held on, lost the ball and lost close to 20 yards. The blocked kick was a huge mistake, but the two guys that cost us the game was Nassib and Rene. You take those two out of the equation I think we win. Nassib turned the ball over entirely to much. I agree Lemon dropped a couple big passes, but it comes down to the QB fumbling twice (one lost on the 50, one we recovered, but knocked us out of field goal range) and the 2 picks (one in the redzone, and one with 3 min left? with a chance to go down and tie the game) and Rene, I think we all know he should never see the field again.

I don't think I'm exaggerating. Look you know me and know I'm not going to just personally bash our players, but who in the current crop of qb/wrap sees the field at a Bcs level school that we are trying to catch?

Everyone of our Starting WR's are bcs caliber imo

We have a bunch of possession receivers which is why we tend to do ok on 3rd down with manageable distance but we have no one to really stretch the field. Clark is the closest thing and he is one stiff breeze from being out for the season.

Somehow Nassib has turned into Nunes.

The biggest problem is that certain areas of this team have helped find a way to lose and not find a way to win. It's by far not all Nassib's fault that they lost just as it isn't all his fault when they win, it's the ultimate team game and everybody has to do their part.

That said, if this team loses to UConn, I want Loeb/Fleming/Moore starting from here on.... unless Maronne doesn't want to show the ACC what we can do too early. (sarcasm alert). Lets use the rest of the season to get ready for 2013 then because doing the same thing over and over again just doesn't seem to be working.

I would possibly agree with this. The problem is that we don't have one great receiver who can make plays all the time (a la Mike Williams). This certainly doesn't help. Sales, Lemon and West are all certainly BCS receivers, no question.

Ahhh he was down on the supposed fumble at the 50. His arm was clearly on the groud when the ball got ripped out. Horrible call.

I remember a certain Mike Williams, as good as he is/was at SU, who dropped some big passes. A TD against PSU that would have cut the lead to 7 and a big 3rd down late in the 4th against Minny that probably would have let SU run down enough clock to hold them off.

I'm just trying to point out that even the great ones don't make ALL the plays ALL the time.

I disagree. Rene was definitely on his back when the ball got ripped out, but Nassib appeared to be up when the ball came out. Still, he should not have allowed either fumble to happen. He is a 5th year senior, not a 1st year starter. He needs to have a death grip on the ball, especially when he's running.

The most critical need is a qb that can extend plays when the first option is covered or the pocket starts to feel pressure. When either of those two things happen right now we have no chance.

And don't blame the OL - talent-wise it's not much different than what we've had there in the 90s - swap Terry with Pugh. McNabb was always scrambling for his life.

No question. We don't have anyone who can truly stretch the field or go up and grab the ball like Williams could.

These are the key words about Williams. We don't have WRs or DBs who go up and grab the ball. One of our DBs had great coverage on one of RUs completions on Saturday but he didn't go get the ball. He was in position to make a pick, but he tried to catch it in stride rather than going in the air to get it. That allowed the WR to make a play and bat it away. Everyone wants to make a catch in stride when sometimes, the best play is to stop and jump.
