Been following this young man's progress for quite some time now and I'm really impressed with what I see. He is a genuine competitor and has that fire and ability to take a team to a new level of success. Guys like Rex can become true game changers with the proper development. While I realize he sustained a season ending injury recently, I have no doubt that he'll return to the field hungrier than ever. Syracuse got em' a good one. Here's a quick bio on the star QB-

Has offers from Syracuse, Clemson, FL, Oh St, Cincy, VT, Miami, Miss St and many others. Unofficially visited Texas on April 18th. Unofficially visited Clemson, Tennessee, and Notre Dame in March of 2014. Rex is the son of former NFLer Brad Culpepper. His mother was on the show 'Survivor." Has a younger brother, Judge Culpepper, who could follow in his brother's footsteps to SU. Grandfather played at Fla.
As you probably know, Rex tore his ACL while running 7 on 7's in late July. His surgery is planned for early August under the careful watch of respected athletic surgeon Dr. Seth Gasser. Dr. Gasser has previously done plenty of work with both high school and professional athletes surrounding the Tampa area including the Tampa Bay Buccs, Tampa Bay Lightning, and is the team physician for Culpepper's high school team. While he will miss his senior season, look for him to be fully healthy and highly motivated when he arrives at camp in Syracuse. And you know he's itching to get back out on the wakeboard too.
A quick read- "So what kind of quarterback is Syracuse getting in 6'2", 230-pound Culpepper? . . . . . got a first-hand look last year and liked what they saw. Able to run and create on his own, Rex also could air it out, showing off strength and nice touch. More recently, . . . . . praised his overall strength, leadership and smarts, while raising concerns about his short passing game. It's a curious issue for the Orange, considering recent years have been all about the short passing game with little to no long attack." By Sean Keeley

"He's improved tremendously," Weiner said. "When he was a freshman, he had a funky throwing motion and hadn't really grown into his body yet. But he's put the time and work in to be as good as he can and he's very dedicated. He's one, where, in the end, if he has success and can lead his team, you're happy for him because of the amount of work and care he puts in." Plant coach Robert Weiner - See more at:

"The attraction to Culpepper includes many things: His 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame, his arm (can throw a football 70 yards), accuracy, speed, strength, durability, leadership qualities and genes (dad Brad Culpepper played in the NFL). "Last year as a sophomore, Culpepper’s experience was limited while Colby Brown played out his senior year. Culpepper, however, had an outstanding spring and his stock has shot up as expected. Culpepper follows a long list of great Plant quarterbacks, including four who have won four state titles in the past eight seasons: Robert Marve (state title 2006), Aaron Murray (2008), Phillip Ely (2009) and James Few (2011)."
