Obviously, needs a complete overhaul. I think we’ve seen the last of Collins, Williams, and probably Carney. We only have 1 QB committed and Angeli i would list as highly questionable to contribute next season. That leaves them with Belin and Filardi. Back to the drawing board. Press hard for an elite 2026 QB. Most are already committed. It would most likely need to be a flip, but if someone wants to come to a pass heavy offense with a loaded WR room, it’s worth the shot (Just think how much better things would be if we won the Malik Washington sweepstakes vs Maryland last year).

After that would go after 2-3 portal QB’s. One, that you believe can start and win games . I wouldn’t mind going after a lower level player who has been highly successful over a couple seasons. Another could be a P4 QB who lost the starting job in a close QB battle. This most likely will come after Spring ball (I believe there will still be a spring portal)? The 3rd would be a dual threat that has played G5 or going into 2nd year at SEC school.

Hoping Angeli is ready to go, let alone 100% healthy, and not rusty is expecting a whole lot. I’d put the odds of him being completely ready for Fall camp at 20%

I believe there is only a January portal now, except for players whose coach leaves. Either way we absolutely need to hit the portal for multiple QBs and plenty of other areas, and retain the likes of Demetrius and Antoine

I would not be surprised to see Fran pivot at OC to a more Harbaugh Michigan type O. More balance so if Angeli goes down you don’t see this again.

Hard to put his future all in keeping Angeli healthy basket.
With the amount of talented WR’s they continue to recruit it seems Fran prefers the air it out style. The amount of WR’s on the roster i just can’t see him making this pivot. I think he goes after another high level portal QB.

Risky. Could be his downfall.

Would be nice to see him recruit more OL/DL and less WR/CB.

I think this is the opposite of the way to win at Syracuse. We will never have dominate enough lines and the head coach and coaching staff isn’t the best at Xs and Os or game planning. I think they just have to put all their eggs in the QB1 try to keep him healthy and put up video game numbers. If QB1 gets hurt hope one of your young QBs catch lightning in the bottle otherwise it will be a bad year.

I agree.

The Dome is built for passing.

The hard part with finding a competent backup QB is that a lot of what matters cant be seen in practice.

Rickie has the skills to be good, and probably shows that in practice but when the light turn on and the defense actually wants to kill you, he folds like a sock.

Filardi doesn't really have either, I can see the vision where he may have looked good to someone, but the Gap between Long Island and power 4 is quite large.

Don't know about the 2 guys who haven't played and the Carney stuff is kind weird, I have no clue what's going on there, it if I as to guess it's some kind of personal disagreement, but I am not here to speculate

i'm not gonna bust on Fliardi's performance. epically bad but he was clearly over his head. i liken what i saw to watching Charlie Lockwood play hoops. no question both those guys are great athletes and therefore probably invaluable bodies to have in practice . but we never ever wanted to see Charlie as our starting PG ! this was always going to be a disaster . but let's all hope filardi goes on the have the great lax career that the legendary #22 charlie lockwood had.

Steve is coming back and is expected to be the starter next year, and I fully expect him to develop into an elite quarterback for Syracuse. We still have two more years with him leading the offense, which is huge for stability. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Carney enters the transfer portal after the way Fran Brown handled his freshman season — it’s understandable from his perspective. Rich’s future is uncertain, Williams is gone, and in my opinion, Joe Filardi might even move to lacrosse permanently .Looking ahead, we have Lott coming in from the 2026 class. I’ve been following him closely, and I actually think he’s an elite prospect — just not ranked where he should be. In my opinion, he should be considered a 4-star quarterback. That highlights the bigger issue I see with Syracuse’s QB room: this staff needs to focus on bringing in highly ranked quarterbacks straight out of high school. We can’t keep relying on undersized, 3-star, pocket-passer types. To build an elite quarterback pipeline — one that can handle departures to the portal or NFL — Syracuse needs elite 4-star talent at the position. I love the way Fran recruits and the energy he brings to the program, but this is an area where the team can improve. Syracuse has a rich history of developing talent, and with the right high school QBs coming in consistently, we could finally have a quarterback room that matches that tradition. I fully believe Fran will recognize this soon and make it a priority, because to compete at a high level in the ACC, elite quarterback talent is absolutely essential.

You need a blend. We need a backup game manager who keeps the team in games with field position, etc. Carney could be that… one drive, team moved the ball.

I think they had to see what the kid had to know if he should stay in the room or to go LAX. I thought if the oline had been decent he would have done ok. But with a terrible oline sure he struggled,

Wouldnt surprise me if Carney starts next week

Very solid point. The Nixon approach is incredible when it works, but boy does it stink when it doesn't.

Angeli will be the QB next year. This isn’t 1995 the way some of you think with Achilles injuries. My guess is he will be back late spring.

JK Dobbins’s(a running back) tore his in September of 23 and was back by training camp in 24. He ran for 900 yards last year on 4.6 ypc and is averaging 5.3 this year.

I really believe Carney has already told the staff he is leaving. I think after the way Fran handled the Pitt situation , he felt that he wasn't going to get a fair chance here.

That would be radically immature, even for a true frosh.

We all saw what happened in the portal last fall, we clearly didn’t have funds, we were bargain basement shopping. They thought Rickie was the guy, they found out in spring that he wasn’t and they had to pay good money for a second QB in Steve. We lost so much production and so much senior leadership from last year. Our margin for error this year was slim as is. Rickie was a bust, Angeli was very good and got hurt and here we are. Look at Arizona Staye, a playoff team, massive fundraising resources and guess what stellar backup they have to use now with Sam Leavitt done for the season? Jeff Sims, who is basically Rickie with like 10 years of college experience. We need a lot of roster upgrades, we can and will get another QB in the portal. Fran isn’t Shafer or Babers, especially in recruiting. Steve had a major injury 4 weeks into the season, Fran can sell a QB on the starting job being open for that alone. This season has gone to hell like many others when our QB went down but those calling for Fran to be canned and other stupid sh** need to take a Valium
