True. This web site had an awkwardly written description for his 2024 season.

Steve was considered a top 150 player in the country coming out of HS.

I love his film.

I love that Steve waited and waited for his turn to start at ND until it was evident t he was never going to get his chance to be the full time starter. It seems to me he will fit into the culture of this football program.

When he entered the portal, the staff gave him the McCord treatment.

For all these reasons, I want him. There are worst things that can happen to our program then having two really highly rated QBs fighting for the starting position this fall.

It is cool there are apparently a few highly rated players from the portal visiting right now, together. Hoping we get a bunch of good news shortly.

In the Orange Bowl vs Penn state when he came in for Leonard his performance was as good as it gets. Really showcased what he could do on an enormous stage. Off the bench cold in a playoff game and he goes 6-7 for 44 yards. Down 10-0 just before half it was a critical drive and he put points the board if I recall.

There is 3 on campus that I know of

I don't think Fran named him the starter; just QB1 in Spring ball, which doesn't mean much except that he had the upper hand on the rest of the QB room heading into fall.

A lot of hand-wringing over nothing here.
This.

QB STEVE ANGELI VISITING SYRACUSE TODAY

When Steve Angeli decided to leave Notre Dame football and enter the transfer portal, you had to know that he would end up somewhere he could start immediately.

As one of the top transfers at his position during the spring cycle, interest is going to be there and on Monday it was reported by On3’s Steve Wiltfong that Angeli will take a visit to Syracuse today. The Orange saw another transfer, Kyle McCord, take over the starting position and throw for 4,779 yards, which led all of the NCAA this past year. He will now move on to the NFL.

There is no doubt that Syracuse can sell the position to Angeli, showing him everything that McCord did in his lone season, as he finished No. 10 in the Heisman Trophy voting. As a New Jersey native, the former Irish quarterback would be able to play much closer to his home, and for a program that isn’t afraid to throw the ball.

Another interesting tidbit about this visit is that Notre Dame will take on Syracuse in South Bend on Nov. 22nd. It would be quite the return for Angeli.

This is the first visit that Angeli will take since entering the portal this past week, and it could be a short re-recruitment for him.

College career

Notre Dame

2022 season

On October 22, 2022, Angeli made his collegiate debut against UNLV. Overall, Angeli appeared in two games in the 2022 season.

2023 season

In 2023, Angeli was named the backup quarterback, behind Sam Hartman. He appeared in nine games and recorded 4 touchdowns and 1 interception for 272 passing yards.
On December 29, 2023, Angeli made his first collegiate start in the Sun Bowl.[6] He threw for 232 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 40-8 win over Oregon State.
2024 Season
In the 2025 Orange Bowl against Penn State, Angeli replaced an injured Riley Leonard late in the second quarter and completed 6/7 passes for 44 yards, securing a field goal as the first half expired. Leonard would return in the second half and lead Notre Dame to a 27–24 victory.[7]

This would be a good get, but it seems like the team already has QBs. Why not spend the $$$ in other areas?

Caveat: I still think of the pre-NIL life where players take at least a year to develop and stick around.

You can watch for yourself here. I wouldn't call it "as good as it gets" but he was solid.

All his passes are to first-reads and one was a check down.

It’s unbelievable how McCord can snowball into Angeli who can snowball into someone in the future.

Having a good reputation for developing QB’s is so important.
You have to look at it this way, after Kyle, any good portal QB is going to want to come here.
They feel if they can start here the NFL is in their future.
Fran and Nixon to to keep that pipeline going.

My point is not and never has been that I’m such a big Collins guy I need him to be the starter, my point is naming him QB1 was just a misstep in my opinion. If he didn’t do that I wouldn’t have said a word about adding Angeli, it’s just to me Fran Brown has now put himself in a position where he has to walk back everything he said, which again, to me is bad optics. If he wanted to keep his options open why not wait until after the spring portal to publicly name a QB1?
It's because others don't have the same opinion you do.
So let's just move on.
No need for any more discussion.

I did not see any semblence of McCord magic. I did not see escapability. I did not see any special awareness of the rush. I did not see any great downfield passes. I did not see any ability to hit a receiver in a tight window. I did not see any running ability.

All or most of the above may be there, I am just saying I did not see it in that video.

If these six or seven plays are what people hear are so amped up about....I think I am missing something.

Dont get me wrong, I am glad he is visiting. I hope we get him, but I saw nothing compelling to make Fran go back on his word to Rickie. Again, if Rickie falters, everything becomes up in the air.

As I have said all along - I hope he comes - I do believe that if he comes that sooner or later he will get an opportunity for one reason or another. Leave it at that.

Watch the video of their bowl game vs Oregon St where he played the full game. It’s also very recent.

But also a bowl game against 2s and 3s.

I'm on board with him and Rickie competing, don't get me wrong. Neither guy is a sure thing, and that's what's scares me most.
Dramatic

I’m sure he didn’t have 10 starters on his side and I’m sure they didn’t have 11 2’s and 3’s on theirs. Yeah it’s not Alabama but it’s live full game action against a top 20 team. More than we have for anyone else on the roster.

The staff has multiple connections to Angeli and scouting information on him. The fact that he is visiting this quickly is a flashing neon light.

If Angeli wants to commit, Fran will make the NIL happen. We won't have to wait long on this one.

Thx, I was able to google some highlights from that game. Angeli made a few really nice throws in the videos. Makes me feel better.
He’s also McCordish mobile. He definitely isn’t a dual threat but he does seem to have good presence and movement in the pocket and can pick up a first down with his legs if need be.

Let them battle it out in fall camp. The real discussion we should be having is how many transfers we can get on defense. The way I see it we have 3-4 holes to fill for guys to come in and start. I’m more worried more about defense this year than last year.
