Let them battle it out in fall camp. The real discussion we should be having is how many transfers we can get on defense. The way I see it we have 3-4 holes to fill for guys to come in and start. I’m more worried about defense this year than last year.
That's assuming Collins doesn't hit the portal because he feels hard done by here.

Depends on what was promised to him. If we promised him the QB1 spot, I don’t blame him for hopping.

If we were candid with him and are candid with Angelo about the ability to come in and compete for a spot, that’s a different story.

I’m fully convinced that certain people will find a way to complain no matter what happens. This same poster would be going bonkers in the fall if Collins isn’t effective and Angeli is going off elsewhere. 100%.
For me personally I wouldn’t be at all, for the 500th time, my comments specifically have zero to do with adding Angeli and 100 to do with how FB went about it.

True. This web site had an awkwardly written description for his 2024 season.

Steve was considered a top 150 player in the country coming out of HS.

I love his film.

I love that Steve waited and waited for his turn to start at ND until it was evident t he was never going to get his chance to be the full time starter. It seems to me he will fit into the culture of this football program.

When he entered the portal, the staff gave him the McCord treatment.

For all these reasons, I want him. There are worst things that can happen to our program then having two really highly rated QBs fighting for the starting position this fall.

It is cool there are apparently a few highly rated players from the portal visiting right now, together. Hoping we get a bunch of good news shortly.
Are you sure the 247 site had him as an 87 doesn’t sound top 150 to me.

It’s more none of the guys on the roster are ready for this schedule. AngelI might be.
Just because you are QB1 or RB1, or TE1, or Center 1 after spring practice doesn't mean you are a guaranteed starter in the fall.
Everyone knows that you always need to continue to get better to keep your spot.
If they don't know that, then they should move on, because that's real life.
The coaches have to put the best players out each game or possibly lose and get fired.

The team that played the spring game wasn’t talented enough to succeed next season. Loosing Peña and Watson only amplified that. Fran knows this. We have some talented young players but it is dangerous to rely on young players. QB, WR, Tackle and linebacker seem to be the main focus. I wouldn’t mind a corner but that is Fran’s specialty so he must love Samuel and the Kerr’s.
Fran is relentless let’s see how this plays out. He knows the talent has to be improved.

agree. i think he's comfortable with younger kids at CB. a LB is a must. everyone knows that. I trust they'll get one (or two).

I just finished reading 15 pages of this thread. Perhaps I missed it but did Fran say anything in Spring Practice other than what was reported on Nunes is An Absolute Magician?

“He’s getting a lot better. He seems to be moving into the leader of our football team. I’m liking what I’m seeing. Think the players are behind him, (and) everybody is behind him, so it seems like he’s going to be our quarterback,” Brown said.

Surely there must be more than that, right? Otherwise, why the heck do some here have a problem with Fran saying that and potentially brining in Angeli?

Absolutely Loeb-esque
Voted sexiest man at Bergen Catholic (by nuns)

Smh Minimizing a relief appearance in a playoff game, down 10 in a do or die drive, against Penn State and that defense. He completed as many passes on that drive as Collins did for his career. Survived a strip sack, displayed touch, was accurate and hit a secondary receiver. Nah no pressure. People are funny.

I'll ride or die with Collins but people were skeptical to begin with him. He beat out a redshirt frosh and two other freshman.

It's funny, my wife and I were in NYC last week for Passover. We had to attend a celebration of life memorial in New Jersey and my wife's uncle was driving us. We passed by Bergen Catholic on the way there and I go, "Oh Steve Angeli, Notre Dame's backup QB went there." No one in the car was impressed. Hahaha.

The same people on here saying oh how can Fran annoint Collins as QB 1 and bring in Angeli.
They will be the first ones who if Collins doesn't work out and Angeli goes somewhere and has a great year.
They will complain why did Fran let him get away?

It’s not as if Rickie was just QB1 on the depth chart. Fran Brown came out and said Rickie was the guy. There is a massive difference.

I won’t. As i’ve already addressed, my problem has zero to do with bringing Angeli in and 100 to do with how FB went about it.

He was the guy at that point.
Why name a QB1 for the offseason, a QB1 for the spring? Can you give me any other example of a coach anywhere in America labeling a kid QB1 for the spring and the spring only? Coaches say all the time this player is ahead of this player, that is different than saying to the media “this is our guy”
