Lack of QB1 openings at good P4 programs. Solid NIL from Syracuse, with the chance of competing for the starting job. If he is the backup he is making good money to be the backup for a year and then he can reassess.

I think it’s likely that some teams call to feel him out and his situation. Will he bite or not.

He has an agreed nil deal so not like this means he’s getting a pay cut come fall. He’s going to have to compete tho

Gotta imagine Fran had a convo with Collins. I think Fran definitely made a misstep by announcing Collins as the starter in Spring. But I’m all for QB competition. Neither is a proven commodity. But it’s nice to have 2-3 QBs on the roster that can potentially start at this level. Let’s hope we hold onto them until the portal closes on Saturday

Re: the bolded, I don't think it was a misstep, personally. I really liked that Fran wasn't going to play the tedious game of not saying anything so as to not tip your opponent (the one we're playing in 5 months) about who's starting.

QB is THE leadership position. The longer both the offense and the QB knows who is #1 the better, IMHO.

Clearly the staff has reservations about Collins, but he was also clearly the best of the bunch prior to today.

Totally agree with you about the competition being a good thing, and wanting to hold on to Collins.

I attended 3 practices. I was really nervous about the QB situation. You can see the raw talent in Collins but the other guys aren’t ready.

Fran answered the call again. He’s the real deal.

I got a lot of pushback when I said .500 would be a struggle with Williams in January. And that was after watching one bowl practice.

We all need to calibrate that neither of the new guys are replicating last year. But there’s a greater chance that somebody is adequate.

It’s natural to compare the next QB to the last but it’s not fair considering Kyle McCord was /is as good as it gets.
Angeli and Collins won’t be McCord so let’s let them be themselves and hope they crush it too.

Well to be fair Florida hasn’t been spectacular in a decade or so, South Carolina is coached by a five head and wasn’t relevant until they stole our recruit and Michigan wasn’t a title contender until well after Villari left.

I do feel a bit for Collins, but you never know in life what's coming next. Regardless of who is #1 or #2, we have two legit QBs that can back each other up, and replace the other if needed
