Am I correct that two #1 seeds can play in the same pod?

I ask because I noticed that Ohio State is hosting the Columbus pod, so obviously they cannot play there. The most logical place to put them would be Pittsburgh, with Louisville as the second-best choice. SU's goal is to be placed in Pittsburgh as well.

I'd hate for SU, even as a #1 seed, to be sent to a far location due to this. I'm pretty sure, though, that you can have two #1's in the same building.

Sure.

You could get 4 Eastern Regional teams playing at Noon & 2:30 (1 vs 16, and 8 vs 9), and 4 Midwestern Regional teams at 7 and 9:30 (1 vs 16, and 8 vs 9).

I too think that is possible. Would certainly be a difficult decision for the committee to make if they both end up with #1 seeds.

I thought that was the reason behind the Post. They didn't want Duke or UNC to travel to hostile sites doe the first 2 games.

placement for the first 2 rounds is all about money and who will draw crowds and nothing to do with which region you are in or what seed you are

Yes, but they can't put three or four #1's in the same pod.

The other pods would get jealous.

Max of only two #1's is possible, since the winners would have to play each other two days later. There have to be 4 teams in each pod from the same region.

The Columbus pod is being held at the Nationwide Arena. OSU has only played one game there this year so I believe they can still be placed there. I might be wrong but I don't think so. I think Villanova had the same thing happen a couple years ago. Something very ugly would have to happen for Cuse not to end up in Pittsburgh.

EDIT: Actually I am wrong. This is from the OSU website from a few months ago. I think in Nova's case that they were not the host school but OSU is. In Pittsburgh, I believe Duquesne is the host school, so it might be possible for Pittsburgh to play there.

The Buckeyes also will play a game Dec. 22 at Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus. Ohio State will take on Miami (Ohio) as a preview to the NCAA Second and Third Round games at Nationwide in March. As the host school, Ohio State is required to play a game at the venue during the regular season. The Buckeyes are not eligible to play at Nationwide should the Buckeyes qualify for the NCAA tournament this year.

2 number 1 seeds can be in same pod for first 2 rounds. in 2006 nova and uconn were 1 seeds ad both played in philly

-You can (and seem to quite often) get two #1 seeds at the same pod.
-In 2006, Villanova played fewer games at the FU Center specifically so they could be eligible to play there in the NCAAs (which they did). UConn & Villanova both played at the FU Center as #1 seeds in 2006.
-Any school hosting usually has to play one game in the arena that year (examples: Georgia Tech played UConn in the Georgia Dome the last time the Final Four was in Atlanta, BC played Providence at the TD Garden in 2009). Kind of a way to work out the kinks. The Pitt-Duquesne game is at the CONSOL Energy Center every year, which takes care of the Panthers as hosts there.
