  • Can't imagine there's a worse OL in P5. Remember, we couldn't push Holy Cross, a mediocre D-2 team off the ball. Are the players really that bad? There's got to be something else along the lines of scheme, development to be that bad. Truthfully, the OL really hasn't been good for all 4 years under Dino, particularly running the ball. This year is more magnified without the Dungey threat and losing our tackles. We saw a bit how much we missed this when Welch came in the game and gave that threat. Unfortunately, he can't pass like Dungey (or Devito).
  • When you think about it, we haven't developed one OT in 4 years under this staff. We had Conway and mcgloster from Shafer and Koda coming as a grad transfer. Somehow, Alexander looks much worse than he was last year, even against teams like Holy Cross. So it has to be something other than just talent IMO.
  • Hate to see TD struggling so much physically and mentally right now. Really hope he can overcome it and not be our next Andrew Robinson. He definitely has the arm talent. Can he regain his confidence and improve his instincts in the pocket? We need to help him with opening the playbook, which I think we did some w/ Welch in the game. Jet sweeps, slant, quick passes, obviously Jackson dropping that pass in the beginning hurt.
  • We also need to roll out the QB more, particularly on 3rd and long. I'm tired of that being an automatic sack. Our OL is obviously struggling, but why make it easy for the Defense to know where our QB will be every play.
  • Other than the fact that we struggle to run and pass, we also struggle to tackle, particularly on runs to the perimeter (wish we'd try some of those). Even we make a tackle, the opposing RB seems to always fall forward 3 yards. I'm amazed how often we struggle to get guys on the ground and van just hold them up till they blow the whistle
  • Even ST (other than the HOF) hasn't been good this year. Considering how rarely we have a decent retun, it's amazing (not in a good way), how many penalties we get there
  • Anyone aware why their receivers were wide open on every 3rd and long? It seems the only times we stopped them there is when they dropped the ball
  • It hurts to waste a year when we have Senior bookends like Alton and Coleman.
  • Very worried about recruiting-Our main focus has to be OL, DT, and QB. The depth at those positions are nonexistent. The problem is we struggled recruiting after 10-3. How do we convince guys to come after seeing this? Best shot is to sell these positions being wide open and if they're ready, particularly on the lines, they can play day 1. However, it's a tough sell and other program will claim the same.
  • Biggest offseason needs-Re-evaluate the OL scheme/development and hire a top notch recruiter.
  • Hate to be so pessimistic, as I generally try to be balanced in these posts, but genuinely concerned about the program going forward w/o these changes

Abdul Adams had a nice 7 yard rush early on where he made a nice move to turn nothing into something.

He had 1 more rushing attempt the entire game. That can't happen. Bring that guy in here for 2 rushing attempts?

Welch came in, pre Tommy injury, he gets a big run. Next play is Neal for a 19 yard run. Neal only had 7 rushes the whole game.

I know we've struggled to run, but abandoning it completely is ridiculous.

If they bring in new pieces on the OL, that's what I'd be working on the rest of the year. Show improvement this year, build something for next year.

#1 priority starting December is hitting the grad transfer & transfer markets HARD for OL. I don't care if we have 5 grad transfers starting next year, it's awful right now. You're telling me we can't get backups from Penn State, Maryland, Michigan, etc. to come start at SU? Any Northeast kids that want to come home for a 5th year and get a Masters?

About as the 3rd down d is exactly what I see. I don’t get it.

Fantastic post!

In regards to our recruiting deficiencies, put me in the all-in category for junior college transfers, at least in the short term. I realize that this is not the ideal way in building a program longer term, but I'm so exhausted with these 4-8 types seasons, etc. Yes, I know we had 10 wins last year, and it was awesome, but fact is, it's an outlier without question. We need a significant uptick in quality players (especially when it comes to P5 level play) and from the sounds of it, it doesn't look as if our 10 win season last year beared the fruit we all hoped it would. This season to date has been very deflating, and obviously it won't have a positive impact on recruits...so I'm good with going whatever route it takes.

ps...if your post was a "quick thoughts" version, I'd like to see your more substantial ones. ;) :)

P5 level transfers, not G5 like Alexander. You need guys that have played at this level. Alexander would have been a better fit at a Liberty like school because the linemen are similarly sized. I've accepted this season for what it is; wasted mainly because of the guys upfront.

On recruiting. Good seasons don't tend to impact the next recruiting class as much as the one after that and the one after that. We don't yet know the impact of the 10-3 season.

I'd be interested in the OL stats for last year, such as YPC and sacks allowed. Don't think they were too good last year either, though think we ran the ball a little better at end of games and end of year. Believe we've had little to no rushing game since Babers has been here and I like Babers.

We didn’t go off sides every other play last year and either.

I was dead wrong about Alexander. There are guys who are good enough from the G5 level to play. You just need to look at the NFL to see that. But you better be sure at such a key position. But I'll be more excited about Power 5 transfers in the future.

They've allowed 35 and counting. They lead the nation in sacks allowed.

Holy Cross is D1. They are FCS but still D1.

D2 would be someplace like Pace University or Bentley University or Joe Adam's St. Anselm College.

A week ago you threw a hissyfit on me because I’d already arrived at this conclusion. Priceless.

Tell me again how bad everybody we play the rest of the year is though!
