Rakeem christmas...

The stats don't bear this out. There was a thread last week that broke down SU's defensive efficiency by player and Rak had the worst number - well behind BMK.

Did those stats break down his defesnive nubmers as a forward vs. as a center? That's what might be relevant if we are considering Rak as a possible back-up center.

As to Melo, I was not in the "bust" group. I posted many times that he would explode... the question was when. Fortunately, we're witnessing it right now, and it's great to see.

As to next year, yes I am very concerned. DC2 does bring bulk to the middle, and he's a talented offensive player in the Jared Sullinger mold. But at 280 pounds, he's not a leaper and will probably not be the eraser we all would like to see in the zone. Rak could be that kind of player some day, but he's on a slow curve.

This is why, IMO, you're seeing so much interest from the staff in NN. He WOULD be the eraser we need from day 1, and could be one of the best off the ball shot blockers SU has ever had. We would still be inexperienced with 2 new players, but DC2 and NN could be a dream frontline.

I would be extremely happy to have a high scoring center, for once. I'd gladly give up shot blocking for some decent positional defense and 14+ pts a game. And I think we will get it: I see DC as a taller Dajuan Blair.

Won't happen unless we commit to feeding the post as part of the base offense.

I agree--DC will provide a more consistent low post scorer than what we've seen the past few years, but even when we had Arinze, it seemed like only Triche and Rautins ever fed the post.

So, if I'm reading that correctly, they don't differentiate. Also, Baye's defensive raitng is the third worst, (behind MCW). Basically the two freshman are the bottom two guys. But I don't really see an argument there for not giving Christmas sopme of Baye's mintues at center. Rak might be better at his nautral positon. Baye isn't that much better than he is and he has to be given a chance to learn.

From the text, Winn states that differences of 2-3 points should be seen as "significant". BMK's rating is 88.5 to Rak's 91.0, a difference of 2.5.

I don't disagree with giving Rak more minutes, necessarily.

the flaw with Winn's charting is that it doesn't take into account interaction effects. Rak plays almost exclusively with the first unit, where his mistakes can be erased by Fab. Baye does not have that luxury. I sent an email to Winn asking him if I could see his data so I could do unit analysis, but I don't expect him to provide it.

I guess what the really means is that Rak typically has Melo backstopping him whereas Baye is the back stop when he is in.

Once we get to the tournament, these are the only people you're going to see on the court for more than 5 minutes:

Scoop
Kris
Triche
Dion
CJ
Fab

BMK and Dirty might get 5-10, depending on the situation. Rak will get 2-3 minutes. MCW will likely be riding the pine for the duration of the tourney.

Exactly correct. The only change to that might be if Dirty gets his shot back in the next few games.

But then there's my point that Rak is playing out of positon at forward. We need to know how he did at center, specially to access how much of a liability he would be at center. That, of course, would be the Notre Dame, Cincinnati and West Virginia games.

Anyone know how he's handling the way he's being used?

If I were playing only two minutes a game, the two guys ahead of me on the depth chart were only sophomores, the team added a 5-star big man and is trying to get another, I would wonder if I had a future with the team.

dion will be back for 1 more year-he has enough holes in his game that another year will make him money-

fab may also be back-he could use some more time to learn the game better and there is a few big guys coming out that would be ahead of him-again staying will make him money

right cus everyone wants to draft a non starter and a big man who has no real experience and is a 6p-6r guy-these aint korticky kids

neither are coming back... right, wrong, skill set, etc. I don't think Melo will rule out even playing in Brazil or Europe for a few years if need be, but he shouldn't have to worry about that, a big guy with his athleticism and raw skill set will be drafted probably higher than he should.

Waiters is more the wild card, IMO

if school isnt a issue for either of them they should come back to improve draft position -

heck a week ago dion had a slump that everyone said made him less desirable-now hes that much better?

i think some want to see him go too justify we have nba talent

Melo is gone..he will be a late lottery pick. Waiters is gone too, though he is no guarantee to be a first round draft pick. He has stopped going to classes by many accounts.
