Just a few game thoughts.

  • HUGE road win today. Take care of business next Friday and let the chips fall where they may. That would be at least 8 wins. I have to get used to winning again.
  • Dave Clawson may be the whiniest b!tch coach I have ever seen.
  • A lot of people in the game thread hated the announcers. I actually liked them, especially the color guy. Had some funny lines, IMO. Sideline lady? Meh.
  • The refs today – well, they really need to go to remedial pass interference class.
  • When we didn’t see TD at the end of the 1st have to take a shot, I figured we wouldn’t see him in this game unless we were up by 4 scores. Then when they answered our 1st two scores of the second half, I was sure. Too much on the line, and HCDB knows ED knows how to manage a grind it out game. An air-it-out freshman QB, on a windy day, on the road, in a close game was probably not getting into the game unless absolutely necessary. And while ED was not awful by any means today IMO (as some in the game thread thought), I think HCDB didn’t think he was bad enough to replace. 275 total yards ain’t too shabby.
  • Love watching Elmore run – RUMBIN’ STUMBLIN’ BUMBLIN’
  • If I wasn’t emotionally invested in one of the teams playing, that was an immensely enjoyable 3rd quarter. Back and forth.
  • We thankfully didn’t see an attempted shovel pass today. They must have taken it out of the playbook (which doesn’t exist, of course).
  • On a day the D didn’t play all that well, they came up with 3 huge turnovers. Kudos. We are now +12 on the year. When was the last time we could say that?
  • The Pork Chop Biscuit by Bojangles looks absolutely hideous. And I love pork chops…
  • Sean Riley giveth, taketh away, and giveth again.
  • Several balls today Custis REALLY needs to catch. At least 3 drops. Not good.
  • What a luxury it is to have a kicker like Szymt. He just looks so effortless out there.
  • Was a bit puzzled by the lack of PT/targets Nykeim got today. Wonder if he’s banged up…
  • Dortch is one of those players I love to watch, and hate to watch. I was stunned when I looked at the box score and saw he only had 95 receiving yards. It felt like a 175+ effort I was watching.
7-2 is more than I could have hoped for (that Pitt loss still kills me). Take care of business next Friday and the buzz vs. ND will be incredible. LGO!!!

Dungey said WF sold out to stop the passing game. Nevertheless, I was surprised to see so few attempts down the field. And the swing pass thing sucks, so why go back to it a million times? Bad play calling.

Why would anyone sell out to stop our passing game? It is the picture of inconsistent.

g
Custis made a great tackle of Dortch on a punt return, as soon as he caught the ball

Oh, and one more thing:

Your Bo Jangles thought is spot on. That thing looks vomit inducing, and I’ll eat Taylor’s Ham and Scrapple.

Not bad play calling. Throw deep and Dungey would have missed it. Just wasn't there today.

i was a little surprised we didn't see a little DeVito. esp given the coach's comments at the half.

Agree. I'd have liked to give him a first half series but I don't think it was the wrong call we just had to work harder for some of our points. Dungey was a warrior on some of those 2nd quarter drives where he knew he had to run for it. The only pass play we seemed to have was the bubble screen though and thats not great. What happens when TDs first pass to Custis bounces right off his hands? We also didn't 'need' our passing game to be on today to win comfortably.

Next week is the game where we should work him in specifically before halftime for a series just because it might be the last good opportunity to do so until the bowl game its at home etc. I don't really care what he does if he plays in a blowout but I'd like to see him carve up Ville's D on a second quarter drive. I think hes earned that.

I was in NC a few years ago visiting family, going back to the hotel from the bars in Charlotte the night after Thanksgiving. Saw the Bojangles sign advertising a “pork chop biscuit”. After initially cracking up laughing and taking a picture(I think I even posted it on Instagram with a “things you’d never see in NY” caption)...we pulled in and I absolutely crushed a couple of them. No regrets. When in the south, eat a pork chop biscuit if you’re drunk enough.

Yeah our deep balls weren't close to being caught. They were all underthrown so that it was going to be a tough play for the defender to not get flagged for pass interference on a guy coming back for the ball on most of them but I'd rather complete passes than draw flags.

Wake's QB couldn't get going either. We made good adjustments and this was one never in doubt. Eric needs to sling it better next week but the refs missed some calls and Custis couldn't come up with anything for him.

True and i have never heard of selling out to stop a passing game. what? Defenses can sell out to stop the run with bodies in the box and run blitzing but selling out to stop a passing game? Impossible.

When is the last time...2001. it's always 2001, no matter what the question is.

It’s not normally my style but for some reason I liked Fredericks celebratory lap after he made the pick in the 4th. He iced the game as we won by 3 scores on the road in the ACC. A lot of reasons to celebrate in that moment. A couple of these guys play with a chip on their shoulder, probably a contributing factor in Cuse passing expectations by a good margin this year.

So I’ll see you in NYC for ND?
