I am bored and need something to keep awake. So here are some thoughts on my weekend and SU football in general.

Vegas is a strange place. So much to do. It is a foodies paradise. I didn’t really take advantage of that this. I did visit the In and Out burger joint close to Allegiant before I left. My burger tasted fresh. The beef was good, the lettuce and tomato were solid. It didn’t change my life and I think a Five Guys or Shake Shack provide about the same high quality burger. It was relatively cheap. Impressed with the drive through layout, which looks to be years ahead of what we are doing in CNY.

The monorail and tram were cool and made me wish we had one in Syracuse.

There were a lot of homeless people around. They all hung out on high traffic corners with traffic lights. They were not aggressive. But some walked around in traffic pretty boldly.

Speaking of traffic lights, the lights in Vegas seemed like they took longer to change than in any city I have ever been to. Orlando has been dethroned. Congrats!

Let’s talk about UNLV fans. They were unusually polite and respectful before the game, and the ones I talked to were also quite confident they were going to win. But they were cool and not confrontational at all.

As mentioned, they were not very loud. Even when they took the lead and almost had the game secured. I talked to a couple after the game and they were impressed with how many fans we brought and had a passionate our fans were.

A couple mentioned the refs and thought they would have won if the refs called it both ways. Not sure they had good memories.

I was impressed with the UNLV offense and think they will win a lot more games this season. Would not be surprised if they win out. Their defense is more suspect but they have a couple studs there and it should be good enough for most of their opponents. They have very good team speed and are well coached.

Sorry to see what happened to Grayson McCall. Hope he makes a full recovery and does not subject himself to more risk.

It will be interesting to see what happens with NC State this week. They got off to a bad start last year as well and eventually settled in and finished strong. Hard to do that with a true QB but we will see.

The warehouse where Battlebots is filmed is on Koval a few blocks south of where I stayed. Cool.

Another hotel with no normal soap but that body wash they keep pushing on me. I don’t like it. Not gonna buy it. I used it but I don’t like it. Did the major hotels all buy stock in body wash? Someone needs to investigate this.

I used Turo for the first time on this road trip. It was a little funky but cheaper than the big car rental places and it was nice to have an alternative. I will do it again. Not a paid endorsement but it worked well for me.

Wish it was easier to walk near the Strip. Getting from MGM to Excalibur, to go from monorail to tram, was not as easy as it should be.

It is easy to walk on Fremont but with the sleazy girls dressed up like showgirls trying to pose for a picture with you and all the NYS Fair midway type folks there and the ever present smell of marijuana in the air, it wasn’t a great experience. Maybe best for people who are partaking in the ganja?

The longest walk I have ever had between gates for connecting flights was at the Minneapolis airport today. It is a good thing there were 3 hours and 45 minutes for me for me to make the journey. Walk walk
Walk. Ride ride ride ride. Go up a
Floor. Go down a floor. Turn 180 degrees. Repeat. The people were all
Minnesota nice though.

From reading posts on the board I see a bunch of people I have never met were at the tailgate and I did not have a chance to meet up with them.

I just want to say I really enjoy meeting people from the board, or seeing people
again I have not seen for years. Want to encourage people to say hi. I only bite when extremely hungry and that is rare with our tailgates. ;)

I also want to apologize to anyone I offended with my in game alternate personality. I have never really met him and can’t really control him but I ask my friends to try and keep him out of fights and out of jail. Props to my peeps for doing that at the UNLV game.

Woke up after the game feeling exhausted with an extremely blown out throat. Very happy I was not in jail and had zero black eyes.

I think this thing is kind of like the catholic gift of tongues except the new language is trash talk.

I think the body wash proliferation is simply a cost saving measure. Topping off 3 pumps of body wash is cheaper than replacing a mini bar of soap.

What was so impressive about their drive through strategy ?

Nice write up. Foodies paradise? Cool you tried The "In and Out *urge*" (customary to change the bumper sticker, removing the B and R) I'm guessing there was a bit more. ;-) Last time I was there it was 99cent shrimp cocktail and 2.99 Prime rib... just wait an hour, and us poor post college kids did just that. ;-)

Strange? You can say that, again. Mid twenties, we were accosted with so much porn material, that we wound up with 2 back packs full...

We wound up going to breakfast with a rather beautiful stripper, we shared a room with. Michael Jordan had given her thousands. ;-) She was nice, no funny biz. (she'd fly out from LA once a month to support her kid, a few grand a night) Walking into breakfast with her, a guy saw her and spilled his spoonful of cereal down his face... LOL. Just dropped his jaw and poured his cereal all over himself ...LOL. One of my favorite Vegas memories.

Its definitely weird.

Jealous you were able to check out the new stadium, and cheer us on to a win!

You're the GOAT!
Fyi, nothing beats a Culver's butter burger.

My first Turo was on the island of Molokai of all places and it was about half the price of the rental companies. You get what you pay for, but it’s good when you really don’t care what you’re driving. It’s a good thing I didn’t care because it was a real junker, and the brakes squeaked. My suggestion for those that use Turo is to be careful to read all of the reviews ahead of time to know what you’re getting. But I’d use again.

The fun thing about this Molokai Turo rental was meeting the owner. She was waiting for us at the airport, gave us both big hugs, and then drove us around town and showed us the ropes.

Turo is a great alternative in tough expensive places. I use it for Rentals on Islands as well as i find them to be half the cost.
I think you often give it back in parking costs at major airports when you want the convenience of the main chains.

I had to leave a dudes car running in Montreal bc my flight was leaving and he hadn't gotten off work yet to meet me at the airport. Sorry bro'd. One time at Ohare I got soaked brutally on pickup and dropoff parking well over $100 on both ends his car had sat for a while when I went to pick it up and paid and then he dinged a bunch of extras at the end.

My company gets crazy low rates through national that cant be beat but sometimes they do sell out in which case I use Turo. Having to shuttle to an sketchy lot a couple minutes from the airport to avoid parking charges is annoying too.

Its really nice when you want to Uber for part of the stay and drive for the rest. Did that in LA and worked out well.

I happened to be observing much of this with Tom.
I didn’t have a deep enough wallet to sit down at a black jack table ( 7 or 8 hands ) so I played a slot machine……. I don’t get it…. I know people that head to the Turning Stone once a month to play slot machines ….. again I don’t get it.
Vegas was a bucket list trip for me, and it was fun but I don’t think I will be back . I can see the appeal for a bachelor or bachelorette gig or something like that.

Same here. I’ve worked too hard for my money to risk losing it and the thought of losing my hard earned money is more painful than the possibility of winning. Also, I know my personality is such that I could be too tempted to make bad decisions.

I hope any of you that played blackjack did not play at a 6-5 table.

We were in NYC this week, and downtown Syracuse, and up in Old Forge. This ever present smell of pot is becoming really annoying. I try to be open minded about it - people just doing their own thing, and all. But I don’t feel like I should have to be subjected to it everywhere I go. It’s sad really that so many people feel they need to be in an altered state of mind so much of the time. I don’t think it reflects well on our society.

I used Turo last year when I went to Vegas, I rented a Tesla S, didn't drive it often and it was in a secured spot 95% of the time. I took pictures of it when I dropped the car off. To my shock 3 weeks later when I had a claim against me for 2500 dollars for a damaged rim and I had 72 hours to dispute it. I did and I showed how obviously there was no difference between the pickup and drop-off photos of the rims and they ruled against me.
This is one of the most bizarre things I've ever gone through, I could've gone through my insurance but I've been arguing this out of spite for over a year. I thought Turo was the coolest thing ever, but man this has been an absolute nightmare.

Loved your post, brought me back to my time there. The In and Out where you're talking about used to be the one I'd go to the most, but back then that area wasn't nearly as insane as it is now. I can't believe how much it changed in such a short time.

I was in Vegas a year or so ago and I agree, getting in between the resorts is more difficult than it needs to be. Part of it is that the resorts are set so far back from the actual street that you're basically walking a quarter of a mile just to get to the road. Add in the tram system being half assed and it makes for a pretty frustrating experience to get anywhere outside of the resorts immediately around you.

It is 100% by design, they don't want you to leave. Same reason you just can't walk down one simple sidewalk down the strip.

There isn't one thing in that city that isn't designed for them to make more money.

It’s going to be a law in NY soon and probably elsewhere, for environmental reasons. I hate the body wash also. I have started bringing my own bar of soap on some trips.

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, hotels and motels with 50 rooms or more in New York will no longer be able to provide any small plastic bottles containing a hospitality personal care product. This includes mini shampoos, conditioners, body washes and lotions that are in plastic containers with less than a 12-ounce capacity.

Tom, you waking up with a blown out throat on Saturday is the least surprising thing I've read on this board post game. Mine was certainly struggling as well. I'm sure that you'd agree that it was 100% worth it!

I was able to experience your in game personality up close. I would have introduced myself but there was very little opportunity in between your taunting cheering. Well done, Sir! (I was the row behind you and two seats over to your right. We high fived a few times.)

In and Out Burger was great. The fries are no good but the burgers are fantastic.

Wanted to meet folks at the tailgate but we flew in on game day, I was completely dehydrated before we ever walked a mile to the tailgate in the sun. Found some shade away from the group when we got there and pounded water and Gatorade until we could head inside to AC. Rookie move but I haven’t walked around in heat like that before & felt like passing out.

The body eventually adjusts, I did 2-3 short (mile-ish) hikes on Saturday/Sunday outside Vegas in high heat and handled it better. It was 111 when we got back from the last one yesterday.

It was interesting to see how the different casinos made their appeals to different crowds. Only spent a few hours on the strip but I was struck by what the Casinos must know about market segments as I saw the throngs of people who often seemed to fit neatly into some group or another.

As someone who enjoys a toke now and then I’ll add Im also not a fan of smelling the devils lettuce everywhere. I didn’t have that experience in Vegas nearly as much as in NYC earlier this year, that was pervasive and unwelcome. Not sure what can be done, I don’t want to go back to the era of people getting thrown in jail for posession.

Best part of Vegas was the game. That’s an all time classic.

Ok, here's my thoughts and two cents, for what they're worth.

Last Tuesday, I work from home per a normal Tuesday for me. The wife comes home from work, earlier than normal. I say hey what's up?
Mind you, this whole time I am thinking that we are going to drive to MD for a wedding of one of her friends, so that is where my mindset is and was at. She says: change of plans, were not going to a wedding. me: puzzled and say: huh??
She then says there is no wedding, and I'm like oh what happened? Did the groom bail?? haha jk
She then says no, we are going to Vegas. I said, saaay what?!? She says yes, and we are going to the game also, in a suite! I said NO WAY!!! SWEEEET!!! She goes, go pack your bags, we are leaving at 5:30! This was Tuesday night.

So, we fly out to Vegas Tuesday evening. Connecting in Charlotte, eat the usual airport grub, and grab some snacks for the plane. We get to our hotel in Vegas (We stayed at Mandalay Bay) go to our room, and it's masssive! Very impressed.

Wednesday, we chill all day by the beach pool, in a day bed, which was fantastic! We drink some pricey drinks, but they're amazing and so what! LOL we do a little slot playing, and lose cash. Not shocked there.
We then go to the Bellagio that night for some more gambling, and to catch the water show. Which was great as well. Eat dinner at Michael Mina's restaurant, which was VERY pricey, but overall good. I'm more of a burger, beer & wings guy!!

Thursday, is set up to be the same thing as Wednesday, just a chill day. To my surprise, my brother and his wife show up also, and say surprise!!! Now, I'm like WOW!! We again, eat and drink poolside. They really take care of you, once you're poolside, no question about it! We then go to the Sphere, great Earth show, but after the show, my take away is that humans flat out suck, and we truly should take better care of this planet! But otherwise, the Sphere is amazing!

Game day - we get up, eat come bagels, coffee cake & have coffee at a place called Citizens.
Small diner-ish place but it was perfect. We then grab lunch & then proceed to get ready for the game. We make the trek over to the stadium, not a bad walk at all, but by then the drinks are hitting us all pretty good, LOL.
We get into the stadium (finally) and head up to the suite we were in. The buffet and drink setup, was amazing!! We were told that for NFL games, this suite costs average around 25K. WOW!!!
The game, I can't say enough about Coach Brown and the players, we came to PLAY and play we did!!! The energy was electric from the SU side!
Zero voice after the game! UNLV fans were pretty good, but I was asked how much did we pay the refs off, and I say it's about time we get a call in our favor! ;-)

We basically party all night long at the House of Blues, which seemed to turn into the House of Orange!!!

We then relax all day Saturday, poolside again for recovery efforts! Plenty of H2o to be drank! We ate at a steakhouse called Stripsteak and it was impressive, VERY good!!!!!

I simply love the fact that so many SU fans turned out for the game, it was shocking. But in a great way!

We got back last night, and to think it's now Monday... ugggghhh. Definitely have the Monday blues...

On to NC State! Bring on the Wolfpack!

GO ORANGE!!!!!

P.S. HUGE Thank you to my wife, who had this arraigned for several months as a preview to my 50th birthday, which isn't until February. I won the wife lotto folks........

I've lived in California for 15 years Tom and In N Out here has almost this religious type cult following. Dare you say In N Out isn't the best burger place in the galaxy and see what happens! LOL. But I agree with you 100% - it's good, it's not any better than Shake Shack or 5 guys, and there are local LA places that are better than all of them. Price point it's on par with Mcdonald's, but most locations in So Cal you have to wait a half hour plus at any normal meal time to get your food so it starts to take on more of a comparative to places like Shake Shack or 5 guys where you have to wait a bit in my opinion. But it's definitely a good value for the price if you're willing to wait for it.

Oh and by the way did anyone see the UNLV idiot that was walking around in, effectively the Syracuse lounge behind section C134 at half time, flipping all the Orange fans off? I mean it was like packed in there and about 90% Syracuse fans so he kinda stood out. Anyway my biggest regret of the whole weekend is that I tried to shoulder him very hard and whiffed :D . Every so often I see something like that and there's like this electrical disconnect in my body that gets triggered and I snap back into my CNY 22 year old self. Oh well, there's always next time.

Fries are no good??? :) I love them, my favorite fries.
