Random thoughts flying back home

This has always been a mystery. Why pay to be a sucker? Is being a dupe fun? If you want to take financial risk, take an accounting class and invest in legitimate companies. Over a lifetime, anyone competent should clear 7 figures in profit. That is a lot more fun than hoping to beat the odds in order to win peanuts. Please explain the appeal. If you like Vegas buy casino stocks.
This would be my explanation. (Poker Player)

This week I spent $300 for game tickets and had fun (but was tortured) why would anyone do that to themselves? Could have watched on TV free. We do it for the thrill.

spent $300 at Spago and had a nice time (but as nice as that was, still feels like a rip off). Who would spend $300 on food I could buy for $20? We do it for the experience and to make the wife happy.

if I lost $300 at the poker table but had fun, no sweat, to me, its all entertainment.

If you are addicted and cant stop playing and losing, you have a totally different problem, but that’s a different discussion.

I generally do not like to play games against the house. In poker you’re playing other players and you could take money from the tourists. Harder to take money from the house..

No accounting class needed to invest.

I think the only way I'd feel like a sucker or a dupe is if I looked back one day and realized I spent my whole life doing boring sh|t.
Hitting the number in craps is just as fun to me as being at a Cuse game when we score a touchdown. Running around, high fiving strangers. Except for the last decade, I've rolled the number way more times than we've scored touchdowns.
Chasing a bonus on a slot machine with partner can be a riot.
I cant even try to explain the feeling I had when we were in the high limit room playing $500 hands of baccarat the other night.
I don't know, seems way more fun than staring at a line graph, hoping apple has a good quarter lol.

Unfortunately, I suck at gambling. I can't have fun when I don't know what I'm doing...and I have such bad luck. If you see me watching you, fold and go to a different casino.

Thanks for the explanations. It was an honest question and I got honest answers. Each to his own. The point I want to make is that there are many ways for thrill seeking. Not comprehending the thrill of betting does not mean that ones life is any less thrilling. Those that prefer certain types of sporting activities tend not to understand other types.
