Who is that guy? Anyone with forward lean that can take a pounding and deal some out also?
Not a coach, but as a result of the spread/no huddle offenses many defenses have adjusted to having faster players on the field in alignments that match more naturally with spread formations. That means things up the middle don't clog as immediately. This thread reminds me of a lingering question. Why are most designed runs between the tackles? Teams used to have speedsters who would go outside for big gains but we don't see that anymore.

Sheffey is a Penn State player now.Miller or D’Antae Sheffey
You have to be able to make team respect the threat of running between the tackles against a lite box. Otherwise the D will leverage the SS and/or Will to take away outside runs and constrict the short and intermediate passing game. Not a coach, but as a result of the spread/no huddle offenses many defenses have adjusted to having faster players on the field in alignments that match more naturally with spread formations. I do think part of the issue going up the middle is that defenses can converge from both outer thirds of the field, whereas going outside the tackles just by distance on the field alone you're less likely to have a defender on the opposite third of the field get there quickly enough to stop the play.
