Pizza Port, Alesmith and Societe are all really good breweries. Modern Times, Thorn St. Eppig, Hess and the Lost Abbey are some other go-to spots. Alpine Brewing Company was a San Diego cult classic and the beer Duet is essentially the San Diego version of Russian River Valley Brewing's beer Pliny the Elder.

I have never had anything from Pizza Port or Societe (have heard really good things about both), but I've had stuff from all the other breweries you mention. I generally LOVE Modern Times beers (their Black House is my favorite coffee stout), and Alpine Duet is a favorite of mine (also love Alpine Nelson). Can't go wrong with the Simcoe/Amarillo combo of Duet. Hoping to someday make it out to San Diego to do a beer tour.

Yep, you nailed it. One of the summers they had Point Break re-enactment open mic nights every few weeks. Ridiculous concept, but pretty funny.
