Reasonable expectations for QB in FSU game?

Tim Green, Jamie Kimmel, Scott Schwedes, Doug Marrone, Don McCauley and Todd Norley aren't walking through that door.

No love for Mike Siano?

I think it'll be closer than last year's game. I think our D holds them to far less yards, easy long plays and points than last year and our O gets back to power running and ball control offense and benefits from a new play caller and stopping the nonsense rotation of guys in which prevents them from getting into any kind of groove.

Most of the top 10 lost last week, FSU had a rough patch. They are going to try to make another statement this week.

just get out without more serious injuries. We have 4 games we have to win and 5 realistic chances. Need to have a relatively intact 2-deep to reach the goal.

A good performance in my view would be something like:
  • Composure
  • No sacks
  • Completion rate >55%
  • >40% 3rd down conversion rate
  • One or fewer interceptions
  • No fumbles
  • Reasonable progression reads
  • A couple of good long balls
  • Accuracy - hitting receivers in stride
  • Two TD drives and maybe 2 FGs
Anything approaching this and we have a winner.
Other than the last bullet point, I think everyone here would take that every single week, let alone against FSU. If we have a QB do this vs. FSU, we have anointed our next QB.

Sit them for another week because sometimes it just doesn't matter.
If they're not practicing with the new QB, it wouldn't do anybody any good to rush them back out there because they wouldn't have had a shot to work with the QB to get timing down at all.

This is not like Charlie Loeb who had four years of experience with the system. The QB in this game will face the following:
  1. One week to get ready
  2. Split reps with another QB
  3. Broyld, Estime, Foy not ready to play
  4. Probably some serious changes to the installed plays - at least insofar as the ones from the current playbook that are chosen for the game.
  5. Facing the #1 team in the nation.

Anything approaching this will be an honest-to-God miracle. No sacks? That's a bit much to ask for.

LGO!!!

fsus statement game is next week with nd next week

Actually, that is quite possible. FSU is 11th in sacks in the ACC and SU is 3rd in sacks allowed.

I actually meant approaching all you listed, not just sacks. But the sack stats are good to know.

I think that this year's FSU is a team that is not as good as last year's. Wouldn't surprise me if they lost 2 or even 3.

No need for opinion: they really aren't by any statistical measure and/or naked eye.

I assume Tim Green will be...

We've got a ton of injuries...starting center, starting DT, starting RB, and most likely our best receiver. On a team that was already not looking as strong as last year.

Plus it's a look-ahead game with ND coming in next week. I do not expect a true blowout here, even with your issues. Could see something like 24-10 or 24-13, something like that. I feel like if it gets out of hand, it will be due to special teams/defensive plays.

If?

Maybe they should

Those expectations are not realistic at all, imo. I would have taken those against Villanova.

No sacks? Don't count on that with less mobility back there. FSU isn't nearly as strong as last year, but we aren't as strong as last week when we were terrible. Think about it.

They could play entire second string and win.

At least these QB's won't be changing the play calls that much...like to a toss sweep in our own end zone. I think we should huddle, be deliberate, use the whole play clock, run the ball as best we can to set up a basic passing game...and limit, as best we can, FSU's possessions. Our defense is going to have to play lights out to keep it respectable, which I think they can, IF, they are not on the field the whole game. Face it, the FSU game is a QB tryout for the rest of the season. Keep it basic, and see who can manage the game. I always though Hunt was to hyped out there...trying to be "the Guy".

Fair enough, what are your expectations?

This picture is totally messing with me right now... Syracuse dude's head is definitely disconnected from his body. I'm calling some optical illusion shenanigans!

This is what we need on Saturday morning.
