Reasonable expectations for QB in FSU game?

Put a QB under center and Run Run Run... melt that clock.

Best case scenario we find some holes behind Hickey and Trudo... allowing for playaction passing.

Worst case scenario-- no holes, and we lose about 60-0

Remember friends, the week before SU beat Nebraska in 84... we lost to Rutgers.

It's college football and we are playing t #1 team in the country-- have fun with it and hope for the best

Fair enough, what are your expectations?

Run the ball essentially every play.

Other than that, none. Literally nothing. Why have expectations when you just lost your starting QB, your offensive playcaller just changed, and you're playing the number one team in the country?

I hope we don't give up 60+ points. And I hope we complete a pass 15 yards downfield. Just a single one.

Hope is different from expecting, though. As you can see, the bar is set low (for me), as it should be.

Not as much an expectation as a hope...I'd like to see us go for it on 4th down in most situations. Maybe not if its 4th and 15 from our own 10, but let's try making it the norm in this game. We'll need to get fewer yards per play and it allows us to be less predictable on 3rd down (you don't have to pass if it's 3rd and long). Will we win? I really doubt it, but I think it will give us the best chance of staying competitive in the game as long as we can. Plus, it'll be good experience for whoever is at QB.

I'm pretty down on our squad right now, but for some reason I think this game could be odd. Lots of weird variable stuff going on in the program, fsu maybe not as good as they've been and total look ahead game for them...we lose but I don't think it's as bad as we think.

It would be interesting if we came out with some new looks FSU wasn't prepared for, and our QBs...

Nah... they're too talented.

We've got a ton of injuries...starting center, starting DT, starting RB, and most likely our best receiver. On a team that was already not looking as strong as last year.

Plus it's a look-ahead game with ND coming in next week. I do not expect a true blowout here, even with your issues. Could see something like 24-10 or 24-13, something like that. I feel like if it gets out of hand, it will be due to special teams/defensive plays.

Are you just trying to be nice?

I'm worried our team is already defeated with all the drama. Although it was building even before this news. I believe it was Whigham who said after the Louisville loss, something to the effect of yeah it's tough, we only scored 6 so that means we can only give up 5. That's going to wear on the defense, and quickly.

I expect us to run the ball about 75% of the time. Even if we keep running into a brick wall. Just run it some more.

75 25 run pass might be right if we can get some traction.
Maybe just maybe the changes will pump some new life into everyone.
Will be interesting to see if we use same formations.
I think it will be no worse than 49 to 17.

Only way we move the ball against FSU is to use martial arts principles, use your opponents' strengths against them...
Use the Seminoles speed against them; call traditional screens vs. their pass rush, play action coupled with wr double moves up the field, and for God's sake run the ball inside instead of trying the turn the corner outside...
All of the FSU defenders will be hunting for tomahawk stickers; trying to get sacks and pick 6s, use that aggressiveness to our advantage.

I just hope we don't bring knives to a gun fight. Must play smart as u suggest.

This is not like Charlie Loeb who had four years of experience with the system. The QB in this game will face the following:
  1. One week to get ready
  2. Split reps with another QB
  3. Broyld, Estime, Foy not ready to play
  4. Probably some serious changes to the installed plays - at least insofar as the ones from the current playbook that are chosen for the game.
  5. Facing the #1 team in the nation.
A good performance in my view would be something like:
  • Composure
  • No sacks
  • Completion rate >55%
  • >40% 3rd down conversion rate
  • One or fewer interceptions
  • No fumbles
  • Reasonable progression reads
  • A couple of good long balls
  • Accuracy - hitting receivers in stride
  • Two TD drives and maybe 2 FGs
Anything approaching this and we have a winner.

I think it'd be great to get more than the 3 points we did last year.

What I would do is play stall ball. Try to control the clock and keep FSU's offense off the field. We concentrate on up-the-gut runs and some short, outside the pocket, low risk passes to keep the chains moving. Fight for every first down. Let the clock run.

I'm starting to get a good feeling for this one. Not a win per se. But our guys are mad and chomping at the bit to play.

That's always great, but then talent happens.

Colgate is usually chomping at the bit to play us in an basketball, and then the game starts.

Lester wants Hunt to sit in the booth with him to watch coverages.

Maybe Hunt can call plays for a couple series?

Interesting. I have a feeling someone will take his job over the next 7 games.

We met 8 of the 10 criteria. The future is looking better tonight!
