Rebounding

There is no reason ANYONE should do what Pitt did to us on the boards.

I get we play a zone but our front line is way too good for that nonsense.

Well, you are only as good as your competition. Pitt is a really good team with a coach who does really well against Syracuse. I am just happy we got the win. That's the only stat that matters to me with this game. Yes, rebounding is important. So is steals, turnovers, and points. Rebounding is just one aspect of the game. Cooney's hustle play to get the ball at the end may have won the game.

Where does Coleman fit? Grant is too good to unnecessarily sit. Rak is becoming a legit presence on both sides of the ball. Coleman won't play over senior Keita.

And which of them was able to neutralize Zanna? Anything that increases options is an asset. And we'd go one deeper on the bench.

I'm in the group that wouldn't mind him playing over Keita but that won't happen. Since that won't, I just don't see how he fits this year aside from foul trouble.

If we had lost, it wouldn't has been those 3 straight 3'a they hit. It would have been the 2nd half defensive rebounding.

I disagree. I have no problem with him sitting.

Have a look at the schedule. Trying to get through all that, especially the last 5 games, with only two coming off the bench - one of whom is the offensive void, BMK - will be very taxing.

Granted.. At least 5 of their offensive rebounds were off of shots after travels in the paint that weren't called, therefore never would have become rebounds. But we still need to get those loose balls.

I actually saw Fair and Grant look at the ref and ask for a travel while the balls were coming off the rim. CONTINUE playing

Not really that surprising. Our rebounding performance will always be characterized by Ups and Downs. ;)

No crap to you, but that's absolutely irrelevant. When the ball is on the rim, or coming off the backboard, it matters not how got there, the job is to get it. Period.

Still waiting for Keita to gradually improve as the season goes on... It seemed around Feb last year that he started to not be such an enigma.

I don't disagree, but give Dixon and Pitt some credit here. They are good, tough athletes who get after it. The refs started to let them go and they took advantage. Would have been nice to get CJ and JG a breather, but I'd rather Keita get a few more minutes in the rotation at this point than for us to force minutes to DC2.

Well, no crap to you as well, but my main point was that our players rather than continuing to resume play, turn and look at the officials while the ball hits the floor. If they aren't paying attention to the loose balls, obviously they won't get them

Hard to get rebounds when your not looking because your looking at the refs

Something that bugs me is how its legal for pitt to essentially toss our guys aside on missed pitt free throws when our guys have position. At least 4 or 5 of their off boards were because of this. With dajuan that doesnt happen because he is a beast but if its illegal on a missed shot it seems it should be the same at the line.

I disagree. We need more depth down low. Grant/Rak and Keita is not enough. We need a legit center down low to be contenders.

Coleman is a legit center? I don't think he is.

For foul trouble, sure, we need him. To play minutes and contribute I don't think he's that important to our success. If Rak is at the 5 for good we don't need three centers right now. I'd rather see a rotation of Roberson, Grant and CJ than Coleman at the 5 mix.

a lot of people seem to think you need shooters to beat us, but i think the perfect formula is just what Pitt did today. You have to make us pay on the offensive glass, and have to have someone get hot and knock down some 3's. Pitt did both of those things and still couldn't get the win. That's just how good we are.

If we lose it will be to FSU and UVA

I think the issue was fatigue! CJ and Grant can't play 40mins! Personally I would like to see TR get 10mins 5 for CJ and 5 for Grant. The forward positions are the key rebounding positions in the zone and those two guys wore down. They also do most of the heavy lifting on offense they need a break!
