Recruiting 2022-2024

NLF is way too high on these Eclipse kids. Good lord

also it looks like John Draley has taken Cuse off his "schools considering" list on IL
Based on what?

Hublitz has been a consensus top 2 pole in this class from pretty much everyone I've heard. #8 seems perfectly reasonable in that regard.

In terms of performance during the high school season, Colsey has been as productive as any attack man out there (with the possible exception of Duenkel), and he put up 6 goals in the Maverik Showtime all-star game. I'm slightly lower on him than #4 overall, but he's definitely a worthy top 10 recruit.

Jeffrey is certainly a surprise at #1 but, that's partly due to him not playing as many events (he's a three-sport athlete so he doesn't play any of the fall or winter events that most of these kids do) and thus being off people's radars. I don't think the guys who make these rankings have a compelling reason to rig the rankings for a public school kid from CT who doesn't even play in Fairfield County; more often than not all of these publications cater to the private schools and prep factories.

FWIW I'd have Duenkel #1, but I think all three of the Eclipse kids are really good. The 2024 class also generally has more parity than I've seen in a while; you could make a top 10 list at random with any of the kids in the top 30 and it wouldn't look unreasonable.

So with this class being less too heavy do we expect commits to come quicker or slower?

Actually mirrors the NLF at the top more than you'd expect. Top 4 from NLF are 2-5 in the IL rankings with Duenkel rightly slotted above.

Ty is even higher on the Eclipse team than the NLF guys are: Jeffery at #2 proves that this was no fluke and clearly the college coaches are all very high on him.

The two Eclipse lefty attackmen are both in the top 10, and they're both Syracuse legacies.

Cuse absolutely has to get at least one of the two

Other realistic targets:

Fox
McDonald
Malkiel
Laforge
Snyder

I'm predicting a big ACC year after the Ivies (+Duke) cleaned up with the 23s

They need to move to Connecticut to get noticed
I mean it's no secret that Section III has been down for quite a while now. Even at the public school level, money fuels lacrosse success which is why Fairfield County is producing a lot of talent even as it gets raided by NEW-1.

The shift to private/prep school dominance and the emphasis on re-classing and club ball is killing the development of the sport IMO; that's why I loved seeing a kid like Jeffery, who is on-age and from relatively unheralded Cheshire, spurn the private school route and get recognized.

Long Island is relatively clean when it comes to reclassing, but even here the swell of the private schools is hurting the overall quality of talent coming out of the region. St. Anthony's is swallowing up all the best Suffolk kids at a rate they never did before. Kids who were or could be differences makers in Suffolk A now transfer over to St. Anthony's and get stuck in the bottleneck on JV until their junior year. In the meantime Suffolk A falls further and further behind; it seems crazy that a decade ago that league was stronger than NEW-1 on a yearly basis.

Likewise there are still some great players produced from Section III, but they get raided by the prep schools so they don't present as Section III players. For example Charlie Lockwood from West Genny just transferred to Lawrenceville. Christian Hogan was a quality 2024 attackman from Auburn, but he reclassed and is now at Culver.

I am guessing you mean Ben Fox from Chaminade/Team 91 and not Peyton Fox from Belmont Hill/Laxachusetts?

Would certainly be nice to continue making inroads on Long Island. I thought SU would land more Team 91 kids last year with the Spallina connection but, outside of Jake and Brett, only Tyler McCarthy committed. Strange times these days when SU can't rely on many local Section III connections.

Outside of St. Anthony's and Chaminade on Long Island, seems like a lot of kids from Brunswick, Culver, St John's. SU has gotten a few kids from these schools the last few years but of course would be nice to land some more. Obviously every other school feels the same!

I feel like Virginia and Maryland are due for big years as they were pretty, uncharacteristically quiet last year. There were a lot of surprises last year, especially with the Ivy League. Guessing games seem pretty worthless these days.

Michael Leo was also Team 91. Was previously Igloo but switched over to 91 during the summer after either his freshman or sophomore season.

Here it is …

Initial reaction: No canadians in the top 50 will probably not age well. The skills of those young guys in the JR canadian leagues are off the charts. I hope we continue to look there in the wake of landing Finn Thomson. One guy who gave us a verbal commit for 2 seconds, Dante Kulas, had a solid freshman year for Rutgers after picking up little to no attention from the IL folks (as far as I'm aware) and should be a bigger part of their offense this year.

I do not follow who stands out in all these travel squads or what have you so will just have to trust those who are in the know on here.

Yes, i just meant for the '23 class. I should have made that clear.

Do you by chance know if Hackler, Johnny Klieb, and Thomas Bragg at yale did any time at a prep school or just stayed local? Believe a couple of them just stayed in section three the whole time. Jameson bucktooth will be a great player if he goes the college route. Jake Piseno and Jack VanValkenburgh just had a great showing at the U21 international tourney. Wouldn't be surprised to see a couple other names come out of BVille as well. Some names from the area still but it ain't like it used to be.

The three guys you mentioned all stayed local.

It's only one name, so your point is still well taken, but I believe Aidan McDonald of Culver is Canadian.

WG has some very good talent coming through in the future even with losing Lockwood to Lawrenceville and the other kid to Deerfield. I don’t understand the prep route. You play club to get noticed and play HS for pride and to play with your friends.

The education and subsequent doors it can open academically and athletically at places like Lawrenceville and Deerfield, not to mention, for a likely discounted rate, makes it a very easy decision.

Starting the Over/under for commits tomo at 2.

What we going with?

Jake Spallina was the first commit last September and he didn’t give his verbal till the 5th. Don’t go refreshing that Twitter feed all day expecting non stop commits.

I can see the academic side, but the doors are already wide open athletically if they’re being recruited to go to those places.
