Wildhack took a huge risk in hiring this inexperienced head coach and DC. We had to do it, nothing else worked. Robinson (ex-NFL and Mack Brown assistant), Marrone (alum who succeeded but went on to NFL head coach), Shafer (trusted and well-liked assistant) and Babers (builder of non-P4 programs) all were failed experiments. It doesn’t matter how good your recruits are if you don’t scheme and use them as a team .
Marrone wasn't a failed experiment. He left. Brown will leave too, if he's successful.Wildhack took a huge risk in hiring this inexperienced head coach and DC. We had to do it, nothing else worked. That’s exactly it. We are a stepping stone program now. I won’t be upset if Fran bolts at some point for a bigger program because that indicates that we’re doing pretty darn well here in Syracuse.Marrone wasn't a failed experiment. He left. Brown will leave too, if he's successful.
Let’s break that out.It doesn’t matter how good your recruits are if you don’t scheme and use them as a team .
They are mostly stepping stones now & that's OK. You want a program builder, one where you can survive without. Need to be able to move on from him when it's time. No idea why people think he won't move on. I'd be very concerned if he's here still in 8 years. Would love to be wrong. That’s exactly it. We are a stepping stone program now. I won’t be upset if Fran bolts at some point for a bigger program because that indicates that we’re doing pretty darn well here in Syracuse.

I agree we need to relax. On the recruiting front we are obviously better but not sure that bar is super high. Doesn't seem recent signees have been off the charts but I don't follow it that closely especially this early. I think we need to temper doom on the schematics and euphoria on the recruiting. Early to judge on all fronts. He is 9 games into his first season. Defense (which was bad yesterday) is showing its wear because of the injuries. Do we not have our best recruiting class coming in next season in probably 2 decades?
We are already saying he is a failed experiment?
Man this fan base is off its effffing rocker at times.

also, for years because our recruiting was awful, everyone bought into the notion that you needed a coaching staff to scheme our poor talent into beating better teams. By and large, if you look at the top 25 year in and year out, it's the teams that consistently recruit the best that win. Yes, there are occasional exceptions but talent wins out in football. He is 9 games into his first season. Defense (which was bad yesterday) is showing its wear because of the injuries. Unless you're getting a portal full of 85 guys, freshman take time. We're not going to purely rely on the portal. We also are signing big HS classes that also take time.I agree we need to relax. Not if you look at average star rating, quality over quantity. Frans first class had more star talent, and he brought in a top 10 transfer class. The transfer class for this offseason will be CRITICAL… as well as staffing changes.Do we not have our best recruiting class coming in next season in probably 2 decades?
It’s not that great… the class has 31 recruits when most other programs have 20. By average rating it is well into the 60sHe is 9 games into his first season. Ehh not to rehash but his wins by season were 4, 8, 5, 8. Yes he left for the NFL but he didn't exactly take us to any promised land.Marrone wasn't a failed experiment. He left. Brown will leave too, if he's successful.
Sorry, I’m just the opposite…..scheme means ZERO without good players. It doesn’t matter how good your recruits are if you don’t scheme and use them as a team .

YepBabers and Marrone should not be mentioned in the same breath as the other two.
What to rehash? 10-37 to 25-25.Ehh not to rehash but his wins by season were 4, 8, 5, 8. Yes he left for the NFL but he didn't exactly take us to any promised land.

After year 2, and maybe after year 3, Brown & Marrone could end up w similar win totals.Ehh not to rehash but his wins by season were 4, 8, 5, 8. Yes he left for the NFL but he didn't exactly take us to any promised land.

That’s a horrible attitude. Why are we a stepping stone program? We have probably the nicest stadium in the ACC now, great practice facilities, and momentum on the recruiting trail. No reason we can’t be Fran’s Gonzaga. That’s exactly it. We are a stepping stone program now. I won’t be upset if Fran bolts at some point for a bigger program because that indicates that we’re doing pretty darn well here in Syracuse.
