Red's Postgame Presser | Colgate

“None of these games are blow outs”

Tell that to Colgate against Drexel and Le moyne against cal state northridge…

Excuse on the “new team” le moyne played with 6 transfers and 3 starters hurt. They didn’t make the new team excuse.

Yeah you’re playing with more pace. Plenty of teams play with pace. They don’t give up easy possessions to bad teams over and over.

Yeah you got a bunch of boards, GOOD their guys are smaller and shorter and less athletic. That’s not impressive, that’s expected.

This is not accountability, this is excuses. The coach should expect more from his team than that, concerning that he is the one spreading the excuses.

Why are they asking Davis to play on the perimeter? Do they have any offensive sets? Bell needs to have sets to get him open looks at 3s. Going through Lampkin each time down the floor won’t work if he doesn’t play at a very high level, which he didn’t last night.

LOL WUT?!

Dude had a double-double.
Tied for team lead with FIVE assists.
Plus hit a 3! And had a block.
All while committing ZERO fouls.

Yeah, I get it was “only Colgate”, but -
When was the las time a Cuse center had a dub-dub AND also led the team in assists??

I’m guessing you’d have to go back to DC for that.

Bad look by Red. I'm hopeful but this team is a hot mess with no identity, no hustle, no star power. We have a collection of average players. A great frosh who is raw, a shooter who can't do anything else and a coaching staff that might not have the ability to change it.
If I'm Red I'm giving the zone a real hard look as I dont see us winning playing man against any ACC team.

"Eddie's conditioning is not where it needs to be"

Hmmm... I was told, on this very board, that my saying he wasn't in shape was crazy.

And while he put up stats on O, his D is terrible and he is averaging 26.5 mpg in the first two games against bad teams.

This is who he is. He can be a guy on O for bursts. He will be awful on D.

During the game I was mulling over what personality traits are most helpful to be a head coach. This was driven by Red's seemingly passive coaching style. I don't need to see Boeheim-esque dogging of players, but holding people accountable in real time. Something.. something.. DART..

So I do appreciate the passion shown by Red in the presser, but unfortunately, to me, it comes off as more excuse making and defensiveness toward the media/fans than anything else.

Red talks about not shooting as well as we know we can. It's only two games, but we are at:

FG%: 43.7%
3PT%: 26.7%
FT%: 61.5%

It's way, way, way too early to take anything from this as gospel, but if we don't raise those significantly combined with our lack of D, this is going to be a long, long, long year.

He is right in that in terms of assessment. My lord.

Boeheim’s dogging of players is what held them accountable. The kids who didn’t get back on D last night for the layup I saw, should’ve been benched. Send a message, get their attention, hold them accountable for subpar play. Control the controllables. Hustle and effort is separate from talent.

Can you imagine if JB was coaching and Chris Bell did the hanging on the rim thing?

JB would have lost his mind.

Mind boggling why Davis wasn't working in the low post against the smaller guys he had guarding him in the second half.

"Eddie has been in an out. His conditioning is not where it needs to be." In and out as in struggling with injury and that is what is holding his conditioning back. He did not even participate in warmups because of his back. Still looked like one of the few guys on the team who gave a crap last night. And Woodward only had four points. 15 points 12 boards 5 assists 0 fouls. Lead evaporated when we took him off the court. Soooooo far down the list of problems with this team.
