Well out help defense has not been good. Devo has mentioned it 998 times so far. IronicHe is athletic and has quick feet, why can't he stay in front of ANYBODY?

Well it's a good thing they didn't leave and we made the dance last year.JB wanted G-Mac. just saying . but the trade off would’ve been judah and quadir and bell leaving. which was too much to spare in the short term i guess.

I'm semi-retired from questioning coaching decisions, but I just don't understand Freeman playing only 15 minutes, JJ only 23.
JJ, Freeman, Lampkin were on the floor when we built our biggest lead. Colgate calls timeout, we pull all 3, they go on a very quick 15-4 run. All that work to get the lead is instantly evaporated. I don't think Freeman ever saw the floor again.
I'd rather see the accelerated development of Freeman and Moore if we're going to be mediocre anyway.
Ya its fine if you wanna replace one of those guys for a few minutes but this team can't afford a wholesale change like that, this isn't the 2009 team where your bringing all conf type players off the bench. Freemans issue is that Davis is playing well (albeit not shooting ft's) so he's earning more time. May need to play more of them together.
Don't mind Red playing a deep bench but 3 and 4 hockey line subs isn't usually the answer unless we look god awful ala Lemoyne. Pull 1 or maybe 2 tops of those three and then see what happens.
I don't know, I don't see why he would leave.I have said for months that JJ won’t be back next year
I said the same thing. End of the day, we've played Le Moyne and Colgate and there wasn't one second I had the thought Donnie was close to the best player on the floor nor the best option. No way. I don’t think Freeman is even ready to play at this level. What does he do well to run things through him? He shouldn’t even be starting.
Not going to something again doesn't mean you abandoned it. If the defense adjusts it'll take it away, if Donnie isn't moving it'll take it away, if his teammates defender took a passing lane or a screen away then you can't go to it.We did it once or twice with good results but abandoned it.
In our own special way, we're already doing 40 minutes of hellIf Autry wants to play a very deep lineup, why not go Arkansas 40 minutes of Hell, or at least 10-15 minutes of Hell? I mean, pretty much everyone on the roster is athletic. We can just sub in and out constantly and try to exhaust the opponent.
The team was never going to be and will never be good defensively this year.
It’s been coming down the mountain clear as day.
I don’t care what happens in practice.
The construct of this team is such that it will just be a bad defensive team.
And we have no malcontents, real or perceived at the current moment, to blame in lieu of scrutinizing Red, but I’m sure that’s coming.
I was going to post that fans could chip in and buy Lampkin a treadmill so that maybe he could be in good enough playing shape to stay on the court. We blew 700k on Lampkin? Dude can't get up the court without an oxygen tank. "

I'm not knocking his skill set, but I guess I don't know what he does.
He's young, I get it, but expecting more than 10/6 may be asking for a lot.
This leads me to my next concerns, why are we getting these pretty good recruits and we weren't before? Is it Red and staff or is it these schools would rather grab a 2nd or 3rd year portal guy or the 12th ranked recruit? I think people really believe Anthony is going to come in and be this 15 point guy his freshman year.
We blew 700k on Lampkin? Dude can't get up the court without an oxygen tank. "It's early" doesn't work, it's early for everyone...
I'm not sure we are that athletic. We seem slow all over especially in the backcourt. No rim protection - I'm not sure 40 minutes of "hey we can't play man so let's press" solves anything. If Autry wants to play a very deep lineup, why not go Arkansas 40 minutes of Hell, or at least 10-15 minutes of Hell? Agree, but at least try and not be a bonehead. Stopping the ball is something you learn in grade school. We can’t even do that. I saw our guys turn their head on a screen 3 possessions in a row. This is fundamental stuff we can’t even do out there. Don’t even get me started on Bell grabbing the rim late in the game. Even my wife was befuddled over that.
It happened right in front of me. It was a split second reactionary decision to being in a weird spot in the air. I don't fault him for that, tbh. The offensive player was much lower to the ground and when Bell was much higher in the air, in a strange spot relative to the rim, the contact slightly threw off his center of gravity and he grabbed the rim. Not ideal, especially that spot, but I understood how it could happen.Oh, to be clear, I’m 100% in agreement with you.
The blow bys + the lack of basic rotations is extremely concerning and if Red were not in the family, I think the scrutiny would be much higher.
I have no words for the Bell thing.
We should discuss this more.100 percent. People don’t realize how much better the ACC is than the big east. Cuse isn’t playing DePaul anymore. And it’s not apples to apples when playing Colgate, but I laugh when people compare Cuse to Duke and Kentucky. I also think people forget how bad this team has been for a decade. A literal decade.
As far as this game goes, it’s simple it’s about toughness and defense. They better fix it or they will have some serious problems. This team needs to wake up and play how they are capable
It's not even close to true. From 2008-2013 that league had as many as 11 and at least 8 teams make the tournament. In 2009 the league had 5 teams in the top 12 seeds. In 2012 and 2013 the league had 4 teams in the top 16 seeds. The ACC has not had at least 8 teams make the tournament in 7 years. We should discuss this more.
Like Boeheim finally got Carmelo to do, and it changed the trajectory of the 2002-03 season.Red needs to tell this young man to work his game inside out. Freemen settles for fallaways and threes to easy. If he would post up more often, he’d get the ball. He spends too much time on the perimeter.

Right? Him and Bell have the best jobs on planet earth. They will never have it this good anyplace else, college or pros.I don't know, I don't see why he would leave.
I still think he needs to start closer to the basket. Which is conceptually what worked for Melo -- different games and styles, but can't just start the game chucking 3's.Melo had moves for the inside. He just had to go inside out bc his outside shot wasn’t as dependable. Inside also got him to the foul line.
Donnie’s inside isn’t refined at all.
It seemed like we were playing a top 10 team every other week and a top 25 team weekly. It's not even close to true. Didn't Melo score 30 against a ranked team in MSG his first game?Like Boeheim finally got Carmelo to do, and it changed the trajectory of the 2002-03 season.
